Na wstępie artykułu przedstawiono drogę życiową i naukową Mariana Wygrzywalskiego (1829-1895), chirurga Szpitala Św. Trójcy w Piotrkowie Trybunalskim, pioniera antyseptyki w Polsce. W skrócie zrelacjonowano jego dokonania organizacyjne i medyczne, szczególnie w zakresie chirurgii. Zanalizowano osiągnięcia M. Wygrzywalskiego w otolaryngologii, zwłaszcza w chirurgii krtani i tchawicy, usuwania ciał obcych dróg oddechowych i pokarmowych.

This article focuses on Marian Wygrzywalski (1829-1895), a surgeon at the St. Trinity Hospital in Piotrkow Trybunalski and pioneer of antiseptics at the territories of Poland. His life and scientific paths were presented. Moreover, his organizational and medical achievements, especially in the field of surgery, were briefly reported. The achievements of M. Wygrzywalski in otolaryngology were analyzed,especially in surgery of the larynx and trachea, removal of foreign bodies from the respiratory and digestivetract.
