Zmiany zachodzące w otoczeniu zewnętrznym i wewnętrznym przedsiębiorstw przyczyniły się do ewolucji roli menedżera, a przez to do powstania jego nowego wizerunku. Nowoczesny menedżer to osoba zarządzająca grupą ludzi, kompetentny, posiadający umiejętności organizacyjne, sięgający po oryginalne metody usprawniające skuteczność i efektywność zarządzania oraz kierująca się podejściem humanitarnym do pracowników (zarządzanie humanistyczne). Menedżer, zarządzanie przez cele oraz konkurencyjność stanowią zwarty „obraz” aktywnego uczestniczenia w procesie konkurencji. Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie znaczenia menedżera w zarządzaniu przez cele w powiązaniu z konkurencyjnością przedsiębiorstwa.

Changes in the external and the internal environment of the organization have contributed to the evolution of the role of the manager, and thus to the creation of their new image. The modern manager is a person who manages a group of people. They are knowledgeable, have excellent organizational skills, strive for more original methods to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of managing. What drives them is a humanitarian approach to workers (humanistic concept of management). A manager and management by objectives and competitiveness constitute “the picture" of active participation in the competition process. The aim of this study is to present the importance of the manager in the management by objectives in relation to the competitiveness of an enterprise.
