The paper is an analysis of the cognitive-sociological model of reconstructing taken-for-granted knowledge, as presented by Eviatar Zerubavel. The analysis shows Zerubavel’s structuralist and “sociologistic” approach to common-sense knowledge. The analysis also shows that his concepts of formal sociology could be used in phenomenological, existentialist, and contemplative approaches, where social and cultural knowledge is bracketed and reflected upon to clear the social mind for personal and experiential cognition.

The article will present some problems that Polish sociology is currently facing, although the issues in question could also be crucial for sociology practised in other countries. The problem of noticing and not noticing certain phenomena in sociological research and analysis – as well as not noting some social phenomena occurring in the sociologists’ environment – will be discussed. Some version of Evitar Zerubavel’s cognitive sociology will be used here. It will be essential to indicate the cognitive and linguistic context of the identified problems. The institutional context of the phenomenon of ignoring and overlooking certain problems in the academic world of sociology will also be discussed. Additionally, the general socio-political context in which sociologists are currently operating in the world of the Academy will be presented. This context will be interpreted by means of applying Erving Goffman’s concept of frame trap. Finally, conclusions will be presented with regard to how to deal with the phenomenon of not noticing certain phenomena in sociological research within the institutional environment of the Polish sociology.

W artykule zostaną przedstawione pewne problemy, z jakimi boryka się obecnie socjologia polska, choć kwestie te są istotne również dla socjologii uprawianej w innych krajach. Omówione zostaną kwestie zauważania i niezauważania pewnych zjawisk w badaniach i analizach socjologicznych, a także niezauważania pewnych zjawisk społecznych występujących w środowisku socjologów. Użyta zostanie tutaj pewna wersja socjologii poznawczej wypracowana przez Eviatara Zerubavela. Istotne będzie wskazanie na kontekst poznawczy i językowy wskazanych problemów. Omówiony zostanie także kontekst instytucjonalny zjawiska ignorowania i niedostrzegania pewnych problemów występujących w akademickim świecie socjologii. Ponadto przedstawiony będzie ogólny kontekst spo­łeczno-polityczny, w którym działają obecnie socjologowie w świecie akademii. Kontekst ten zostanie zinterpretowany za pomocą pojęcia Ervinga Goffmana pułapki ramy. Na koniec zostaną przedstawione wnioski dotyczące tego, jak poradzić sobie ze zjawiskiem niezauważania pewnych zjawisk w badaniach socjologicznych i w instytucjonalnym otoczeniu polskiej socjologii.
