Help for dysfunctional families with children is included in statutory duties of communes. Families, which are having difficulty in correct filling up tasks associated with the care and raising children, can receive the support from the assistant of the family. It is relatively young profession, which was led into the Polish legislation in 2011. The act is exchanging objectives of family assistants in detail. Also supporting families with disabled or chronically ill persons belongs to them.

Udzielanie pomocy rodzinom dysfunkcyjnym z dziećmi należy do ustawowych obowiązków gmin. Rodziny, które mają trudności w wypełnianiu funkcji opiekuńczo-wychowawczej mogą otrzymać wsparcie w postaci m.in. działań asystenta rodziny. To stosunkowo młody zawód, który został wprowadzony do polskiego prawodawstwa w 2011 roku. Ustawa wymienia szczegółowo zadania asystentów rodzinnych. Należy do nich również wsparcie rodzin z niepełnosprawnymi czy przewlekle chorymi osobami.
