Historic execution sites were a part of the landscape and their location was obviously picked with a certain intention. They used to be situated near settlements where judicial authorities resided and obviously also close to a line of the period transport network. Many execution sites that have been discovered so far suggest that their location was intentionally picked in the immediate vicinity of a path where traffic was known or expected to be heavy near towns where judicial authorities resided.
