Selected attractiveness factors of academic conferences as a product on the international tourism market

The paper identifies selected determinants of attractiveness of international academic conferences as products on the contemporary international tourism market, especially on the business tourism market. To achieve this aim, methods of analysing the literature, reports, synthesis, along with passive and active observation were used. In addition, a direct survey using a research questionnaire via a website and addressed to participants on an Erasmus International Week in Kaunas was made. Some of the most important conditions of the attractiveness of the conference for participants, including transport and information accessibility as well as to the originality of the destination and the leisure program for participants, were indicated. Contemporary international academic conferences lasting a few days epitomize multiple products on tourism market. The article is empirical, but it also presents ideas for the development of conferences as attractive products in the contemporary economy of the European Union.

The 13th International Human Resources Management Conference “Uncertainty in a Flattening World: Challenges for IHRM” took place on 24–27 June 2014 at the Cracow University of Economics. The conference was organised by the Department of Human Capital Management at the CUE, chaired by Professor Aleksy Pocztowski. The major lectures were given by the keynote speakers of prominent scholars in the field of IHRM, such as Prof. Helen De Cieri, Prof. Michael J. Morley, Prof. Paul Davidson, Prof. Peter J. Dowling, Prof. Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch and Prof. Paul R. Sparrow. The main topic of the conference was the challenges of IHRM. 160 participants from 33 different countries asked questions about actual trends in IHRM, presented research findings on the subject of the growing complexity and mutability of the operating environment of enterprises on international markets as well as its influence on the function of personnel in modern international enterprises.

W dniach 24–27 czerwca 2014 r. w Uniwersytecie Ekonomicznym w Krakowie odbyła się 13. Konferencja IHRM nt. „Uncertainty in a Flattening World: Challenges for IHRM”. Jej organizatorem była Katedra Zarządzania Kapitałem Ludzkim Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie, kierowana przez prof. dra hab. Aleksego Pocztowskiego. Wśród zaproszonych gości znaleźli się tak wybitni profesorowie, jak: prof. Helen De Cieri, prof. Michael J. Morley, prof. Paul Davidson, prof. Peter J. Dowling, prof. Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch oraz prof. Paul R. Sparrow. Tematem przewodnim konferencji były wyzwania międzynarodowego zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi (MZZL) w krajach rozwiniętych, rozwijających się oraz na rynkach wschodzących. 160 uczestników konferencji z 33 krajów dyskutowało na temat aktualnych trendów, prezentując m.in. wyniki prowadzonych badań na temat rosnącej złożoności i zmienności otoczenia przedsiębiorstw na rynkach międzynarodowych, a także ich wpływu na kształtowanie funkcji personalnej we współczesnych przedsiębiorstwach.
