An important conservation measure is the introduction of chemical substances into the stone structure that improve its properties. Various methods are used, depending on the specific conditions and possibilities. The article proposes a new method of saturating stone monuments, with the possibility of obtaining the effect of structural saturation. The method has been tried out successfully and its elaboration broadens the possibilities of conservation of structures in situ.

This study presents a new and original method of cleaning the surface of marble statues from plaster and impurities. The task was performed with the technique of electrodialysis, employing ionselective membranes. The statue was placed in a chamber filled with destilled water; the bottom of the chamber was covered with marble chips. The electrode chambers contained 01, n NaCl. The cleansing process which lasted uninterrupredly for 14 days, was carried out with a difference of potential amounting to 20 v. The pH level in the chamber was controlled; the same holds true for the presence of sulfate ions in the leakage from the outer chamber of the anode complex. All layers of plaster were completely removed from the surface of the object in question.

A rational conservation of historical monuments requires a synthetic and uniform gathering of data. The latter make it possible to compare the state of the preservation of the given monument in assorted periods of its exploitation, with consideration for conducted conservation and its effectiveness. The author considers the conception of conducting research and conservation while assessing the state of the preservation of the stone material in the given monument.
