The police forces are the largest institution of internal security in Poland. Despite the nominal equality, the share of females in thepolice forces is lower than that of males, with the gender gap even more visible at leading managerial posts. The presence of women in the policeforces and the fact that they enjoy a certain status and fulfil various professional roles are important both in terms of women’s participation on thelabour market and ensuring staff resources to the police. Based on normative solutions and the existing secondary data, an attempt was made toindicate factors that may prove to be attractive to women when choosing the professional career of a police officer, as well as to address variousdysfunctions related to the work-service in the uniform services.

Policja jest największą instytucją bezpieczeństwa wewnętrznego w Polsce. Mimo nominalnej równości, udział kobiet w gronie funkcjonariuszyjest niższy niż mężczyzn, a zróżnicowanie ze względu na płeć jest jeszcze bardziej widoczne w przypadku pierwszoplanowych stanowiskkierowniczych. Sama obecność kobiet w policji, posiadanie określonych statusów i wypełnianie przez nie rozmaitych ról zawodowych sąistotne z perspektywy aktywizacji zawodowej kobiet, zapewnienia policji zasobów kadrowych, równouprawnienia i równego statusu obu płci. Punkt wyjścia artykułu stanowi przybliżenie policji jako instytucji bezpieczeństwa „zatrudniającej” kadry dla wypełniania określonych funkcji, oferującej w zamian za służbę określone materialne i niematerialne ekwiwalenty. Na bazie rozwiązań normatywnych oraz istniejących danych wtórnych podjęto próbę wskazania czynników, które mogą okazać się korzystne przy wyborze policyjnej ścieżki kariery zawodowej przez kobiety, jak i odniesienie się do rozmaitych dysfunkcji, które niesie za sobą praca-służba w mundurze.
