In this article, I argue that “Polemical Remarks about the Concept of the Chthonic Universe” are not quite reliable. First of all I’m not entirely convinced that the title of my book must be changed. My first objective in this paper is to prove that the adjective chthonic in the title of the book Chthonic Universe is more appropriate than the adjective telluric, which is proposed by my adversary. Next, what it demonstrated is that subsequent objections to the concept of the chthonic universe are invalid. In particular, so-called “methodological objection” is invalid because the concept of the chthonic universe is first and foremost a philosophical view of the universe, which emerges from the development of astrophysics and then is not an obstacle to the progress of this science. Without going into the details of my response to Dziadkowiec’s article, it should be pointed out that most of the objections to the concept of the chthonic universe in it are mere misunderstandings.

W artykule wykazuje się, że "Uwagi polemiczne do koncepcji kosmosu chtonicznego" autorstwa Jakuba Dziadkowca nie są całkiem wiarygodne. Przede wszystkim nie zostało przekonująco wykazane, że tytuł mojej książki powinien być zmieniony. Pierwszym celem tego artykułu jest zatem pokazanie, że użycie przymiotnika chtoniczny w tytule książki Kosmos chtoniczny było bardziej zasadne niż użycie proponowanego przez polemistę przymiotnika telluryczny. Następnie pokazuje się, że kolejne zarzuty stawiane koncepcji kosmosu chtonicznego nie są zasadne. W szczególności nie jest zasadny tzw. „zarzut metodologiczny”, ponieważ koncepcja kosmosu chtonicznego jest przede wszystkim filozoficzną interpretacją rozwoju astrofizyki i nie może być przeszkodą w postępach tej nauki. Nie wchodząc zbytnio w szczegóły, należy tylko odnotować, że większość zarzutów do koncepcji kosmosu chtonicznego to zwykłe nieporozumienia.

The article discusses the concept of the chthonic universe, which is a form of ontological generic monism. The concept states that the whole universe is made of the same type of matter and governed by the same laws established by natural science. First of all, the term “chthonic universe” is analysed in reference to the term “telluric universe” and in the context of discussion on the presence of divine agents in nature. Afterwards, main philosophical ideas included in the concept of the chthonic universe are presented and criticized. The ideas are within the scope of philosophy of nature and have several implications for the philosophy of science. Next, two controversies related to the SETI project are discussed that have a direct impact on the chthonic universe concept. The last part comprises three arguments against the concept in question and an attempt at its evaluation.

Artykuł podejmuje polemikę z koncepcją kosmosu chtonicznego, która jest formą ontologicznego monizmu rodzajowego. Koncepcja ta głosi, że cały kosmos jest zbudowany z tego samego rodzaju materii oraz rządzą w nim te same prawa określane przez nauki przyrodnicze. W pierwszej kolejności analizie zostaje poddany termin „kosmos chtoniczny” w odniesieniu do terminu „kosmos telluryczny” oraz w kontekście sporu o obecność czynników boskich w świecie naturalnym. Następnie są przedstawione i skrytykowane główne filozoficzne idee, zawarte w koncepcji chtoniczności, które należą do dziedziny przedmiotowej filozofii przyrody oraz posiadają pewne implikacje dla filozofii nauki. Dalej są omówione dwie kontrowersje wokół związanego z interpretacją monistyczną programu SETI, które bezpośrednio wpływają na koncepcję kosmosu chtonicznego. Ostatni fragment zawiera trzy argumenty przeciwko omawianej koncepcji oraz zawiera próbę jej oceny.
