W tekście zawarta jest analiza dynamiki podstawowych wskaźników zachodniopomorskiego rynku pracy na tle pozostałych województw. W takim kontekście zaprezentowana jest kondycja Szczecina jako miasta stanowiącego regionalne centrum społeczno-ekonomiczne. Rysem charakterystycznym jego oblicza, widzianego z perspektywy jakości procesów społecznych i gospodarczych obecnych w innych dużych aglomeracjach Polski, są znaczące dysproporcje kluczowych potencjałów rozwojowych związanych z jakością życia, kapitałem ludzkim, zapleczem instytucjonalnym i technicznym oraz infrastrukturalnym, atrakcyjnością inwestycyjną, sprawnością w pozyskiwaniu środków finansowych na realizowane inwestycje i przedsięwzięcia, jak również kulturą i wizerunkiem miasta. Zaprezentowane wyniki analizy stanowią ramy dla oglądu zagadnień związanych ze społecznym postrzeganiem stolicy Pomorza Zachodniego przez jej mieszkańców.

The paper contains an analysis of the dynamics of the basic markers for the West Pomeranian labour market compared to other regions. This context allows for a presentation of the situation of Szczecin as a city which constitutes for a regional social and economic centre. Its distinctive trait, from the perspective of the quality of social and economic processes also present in other large agglomerations in Poland, is the signifcant disparity of the key potentials for development, related to: the quality of life, human capital, institutional and technical infrastructure, investment attractiveness, the effciency of acquiring the funds for investments and projects, as wells as culture and the image of the city. The results of the analysis presented in this paper provide a framework for the review of the issues related to the social perception of the capital of West Pomerania.
