The article outlines the sociolinguistic parameters of language attitudes in terms of speech behaviour. The choice of language as a native tongue and the choice of language code in a multilingual environment and speech activity within the same language determine the balance between the rational and emotive attitude to language. Language priorities, language orientation and language competence and assessment of status, prestige and the power of language are the main indicators that show an attitude to language in specifi c speech situations and communicative situations. The analysis of their impact on linguistic behaviour is the basis for a forecast of the language situation in Ukraine.
