Centra handlowe są integralną częścią współczesnych miast i aglomeracji, stanowią ważny ośrodek życia gospodarczego i społecznego. Ich rozbudowana oferta handlowa, rozrywkowa i kulturalna przyciąga zarówno mieszkańców, jak i turystów, osoby w każdej grupie wiekowej, zawodowej, czy też ekonomicznej. Centra stają się nową przestrzenią miast, ich wizytówką, a nawet „miastem w mieście” – czyli alternatywą dla rynku i śródmieścia. W województwie śląskim występują liczne typy nowoczesnych centrów handlowych – od pierwszej do czwartej generacji. Pomimo ich dynamicznego rozwoju, dużego nasycenia rynku, planowane są następne inwestycje. Klienci – mieszkańcy – mogą więc liczyć na nową ofertę centrów, a podmioty sieci handlowo-usługowej na rosnącą konkurencję.

Their extensive range of shopping, entertainment and cultural activities attracts both residents and tourists, people in each age group. They have become a new urban space and alternative to the market and downtown. In the Silesian urban area there are numerous types of modern shopping malls, from the first to the fourth generation.
