Przedmiotem rozważań podjętych w artykule jest masturbacja występująca u osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Korzystając z literatury przedmiotu, polskiej i obcej, dokonano analizy zjawiska, uwzględniając perspektywę indywidualną (osoby z niepełnosprawnością) oraz społeczną. Na poziomie tej pierwszej wzięto pod uwagę specyficzne cechy zjawiska, tak ilościowe (zasięg występowania), jak i jakościowe (podstawy etiologiczne, sposoby realizacji, znaczenie). Płaszczyzna społeczna analiz objęła przede wszystkim kwestie normatywne. Ujęcie obu tych perspektyw pozwoliło poddać analizie zagadnienie postępowania zmierzającego do regulowania masturbacji na poziomie profesjonalnym.

The article’s focus is on masturbation in individuals with intellectual disabilities. Based on the Polish and foreign literature, the author analyzed this phenomenon, taking into consideration the individual perspective (of a person with disability) and the social perspective. The individual perspective took into account the specific characteristics of the phenomenon, both the quantitative ones (range of occurrence), and the qualitative ones (etiological basis, ways of performance, importance). The social perspective included, first of all, issues connected with norms. Thanks to the fact that the problem was presented from these two perspectives, it was possible to analyze the issue of practices aiming to regulate masturbation at the professional level.

Masturbation is still a controversial issue among researchers. The author shows that modern psychology, pedagogy and other disciplines dealing with the human being try to perceive masturbation in a wider, anthropological context. Therefore, moral assessment of masturbation has to based on a comprehensive approach to the human being, because only in such a perspective one can form justifiable judgments on such delicate matters.

Masturbacja jako zagadnienie naukowe nadal budzi kontrowersje. Autor niniejszego artykułu prezentuje ten temat w szerokim kontekście współczesnej psychologii, pedagogiki i innych dyscyplin wiedzy zajmujących się ludzką egzystencją. Moralny wymiar masturbacji musi być rozpatrywany świetle problematyki ludzkiego bycia, ponieważ tylko w takiej perspektywie można stworzyć uzasadnioną opinię o tej delikatnej kwestii.
