Innovation capital regarded as an element of intellectual capital reflects the ability of an organization to create and commercialize the new knowledge (innovations). The aim of this study is twofold. Firstly, an attempt is made to give a concise review of innovation capital concept and its measures in selected intellectual capital – IC –models. Secondly, this paper sets out to extend the current models and introduce a new valuation method of innovation capital. Moreover, the paper provides empirical evidence about the use of the proposed method.

Motivation and burden are two of the most important aspects that influence response rates and dropouts in online surveys. As a result, we focus our analyses on how pictures and Best Worst Scaling (BWS), two solutions for each problem, interact in the Web medium. We use an experimental design that compares a BWS with pictures, the experimental group, and BWS without pictures, the control group. Results show that pictures influence measurement of BWS in six out of 16 items. We also observe that Couper's (2001) conclusion that concordant text and images have an accentuation effect while a discordant relationship between the two has an interference impact is partly true in our data. Eight out of the 16 items are at least partially influenced by the concordant/discordant variable while four fully respect this model. We conclude by discussing the impact of our findings and its limitations.

Smart metering is a topic that recently has attracted much attention all over the world. Smart metering appears to be a remedy for rising prices of electricity, gas or water. The evidence from many project running in Europe and the USA showed that this technology is technically feasible and can generate the value added for the households and suppliers. In this paper we aim to systematize the knowledge of smart metering solutions, point out the benefits of smart metering and present a short overview of the SMEPI project led by Vedia S.A. in cooperation with GridPocket and SGGW.

In this article, the author presents some common areas for the categories of power and security. Diagnosis of the security environment of a political unit should include both A qualitative and quantitative approach to the assessment of its power and that of neighbouring countries. Such comparisons of balance of power between the countries give the security assessment a broader range. it may be used, in addition, by design for the foreign and security policy of a state.

In our times, a growing interest of organizations, including also the public ones, in crowdsourcing, can be observed. It enables to acquire knowledge located in virtual communities. However, despite many benefits, crowdsourcing initiatives very often fail. Therefore, a need for their evaluation is recognized. Nonetheless, in the subject literature, a shortfall of criteria and methods of evaluating crowdsourcing may be observed. The existing proposals do not ensure a comprehensive picture of crowdsourcing, and they do not take into account its multidimensionality. The article is intended for a presentation of the ways of evaluating crowdsourcing and an original proposal of a list of indicators, which may be used for evaluating crowdsourcing in public organizations. The article presents the original proposal of activities, by which it is possible to assess the degree of implementation of the adopted tasks and determine the level of obtained crowdsourcing results. The conducted research allowed to recognize that it is possible to measure crowdsourcing results using quantitative and qualitative indicators. A prerequisite for selecting the appropriate means is first of all to indicate the purposes for which crowdsourcing should be used.

Nowadays the value and the market position of an enterprise is more and more commonly a derivative of human capital of a given organisation. The development of human capital requires appropriate reporting and measurement. An analysis of instruments of identification and reporting human capital applied so far, in the light of intellectual capital, allows to state that there is no single universal instrument of identification and reporting human capital. Most researchers opt for multi-index tools, without specifying the way of calculating each index. Additionally, models developed so far focus, in a selective manner, on individual areas of human capital and provide separate indices for particular categories of human resources (e.g. only for management staff, or only for the clericals). Most methods are based both on qualitative and quantitative indices. The authors of the study find that, due to the complex nature of the human capital phenomenon, it is not possible to provide a method based on one index. They propose a multi-index, authors’ model for the analysis of human capital from several perspectives simultaneously: the perspective of costs; the perspective of time and quantity; the perspective of effectiveness; financial perspective and quality perspective. In total there are 28 indices, operationalised in detail, calculated in an annual perspective for the management staff and for the executive employees. Due to the simplicity of measures in the developed method, it can be applied by all enterprises, irrespective of their size.

The degree of internationalization of enterprises is determined by the intensity and scope of their business activity on foreign markets. Enterprises are subject to increasing internationalization in the context of globalization, which also applies to Polish enterprises. However, the actual level of internationalization is unknown because it has not been the subject of research so far. The article consequently sets out to: - review scientific achievements in measuring enterprise internationalization to date - verify and assess the usefulness of the most popular indicator known as the transnationality index (TNI) - propose modifications in this index - promote interest among researchers and businesspeople in methods to measure the internationalization of Polish enterprises. In the empirical part of the article, on the basis of a list of the world’s 100 largest corporations compiled by UNCTAD in 2004, the author developed six analytical indicators and one composite indicator to measure the internationalization of enterprises. A comparison of the results of the research shows that there is no relationship between the analytical measures and the composite indicator. This calls for a search for better methods to measure enterprise internationalization, hence the proposal to modify the method for calculating the ITA, ITS and ITZ analytical indices, which make up the TNI index. The principal difference is based on changing the content of these indices so that the internationalization of assets, sales and employment in a given corporation is measured in relation to the corresponding values for all transnational corporations. The analytical indices of internationalization calculated in this way as the basis for the TNI index should better reflect the actual level of internationalization.

The article sets out to present a set of instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level. This necessitates efforts to bring order to terminology involving the microeconomic aspects of globalization. The author offers an analytical arrangement for the examination of the influence of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level are an attempt to straighten out the terminology and outline general rules and directions of further research, which should serve both company managers and researchers. The data presented by the author show the scope and dynamism of globalization and provide an analytical framework to determine the effect of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed methods of measurement indicate the importance of knowledge about the advancement and dynamism of globalization in the sector as well as the formulation and implementation of enterprise strategies. The diagnosis of the advancement of globalization processes in Wielkopolska’s manufacturing industry confirmed the usefulness of the developed method. The analysis points to a clear intensification in the effect of globalization on enterprises in the Wielkopolska region in the analyzed period, coupled with a high probability of further intensification of globalization changes in the area of individual measures.

One relatively new area of contemporary science research on management is crowdsourcing and virtual knowledge sharing occurring within it. It is defined as the dissemination of knowledge by a virtual community, informing others, making it public, expecting that others will comment on this knowledge, expand and complete it. Such a sharing of knowledge is particularly important for co-creating, participating, or acquiring innovative ideas by an organization. However, despite its positive impact on the organization, it has not been the subject of comprehensive research so far. This article presents the existing output in the scope of the ways of measuring community knowledge sharing within crowdsourcing. In this elaboration, explanations as to why it is worth studying virtual knowledge sharing may be found.

The author compares the concept of measurement as applied in psychology with the concept of measurement in natural sciences represented by entries in the international dictionary of metrology. He rejects the concept of measurement as assigning numbers to objects and so-called “nominal scale”. The author considers the measurement a less broad concept then quantification. Psychological quantification is not a measurement but a probabilistic assessment of a latent variable level that we only presume (contrary to really existing quantities in natural sciences).

Managing conflicts in customer relationships is one of most important and, at the same time, one of least explored, research areas within the larger area of relationship marketing studies. Such studies were not conducted in post-communist countries, which may be treated as a gap in the emerging theory of relationship conflict management. This paper presents research results that identify multi-dimensionality of conflict from the perspective of customers in banking industry in Poland. This study emphasizes four aspects of conflict handling, and the influence of these factors on customer satisfaction in relationship with the bank. This study is grounded in so-called “equity theory” with regard to exchange relationships.

The concept of National Innovation System (NIS) is explored from the perspective of its propensity for formalization. It is observed that there are problems with formalization (measurement) of NIS and consequently, deficiency in assessment of efficiency of pro-innovative ventures. Based on an overview of the literature, subsystems of NIS are identified and the leading topics within these subsystems are presented. Results of this study are believed to create the platform for formalization of NIS.

The aim of the article is to show the positive significance of family theories in examining family relations and family functioning and to present the most significant models in the area. Discussing the benefits resulting from using theoretical models in family researches it has been noted that they allow to identify factors essential to understand family relations and family functioning, they provide the supposed causal relationships between variables, they also equip researchers with the common academic language and allow for comparing results of different researches. They are also the basis of working out reliable and accurate research tools which can be used in clinical jobs and counselling. Family theories have been discussed as being grouped according to Skelton and cooperators (2012) into three main categories: family as a system, family stress and resilience and families in time and space.

The aim of the research was to create a Foreign Language Anxiety Inventory in the Polish language intended for adolescent and adult students. The items of the Inventory were formulated on the basis of the definition, components, sources and manifestations of language anxiety. The data was collected from 113 Polish students of humanities. Foreign languages learned by the participants were English, French, German and Russian. A principal components analysis with varimax rotation was performed on the responses to 60 items of Foreign Language Anxiety Inventory. The analysis identified five following factors explaining 57% of the variance in the data: speaking and self-image, formal evaluation of foreign language proficiency, feeling incompetent, avoidance of learning and physiological reactions together with nervous behaviour. The values of Cronbach α coefficient for the identified five factors ranged between 0.85 and 0.95. The Inventory can serve as a research tool in diagnostic and experimental research.

The article presents the results of validation studies on the Inventory of Attitudes Towards Social Innovation. The measurement was conducted on public institution employees and members of non-governmental organizations, i.e., people who, due to their professional or social roles, participate in resolving local social problems. The study was conducted using cross-validation. Factor structure, internal consistency of the test and subscales, and stability over time were assessed using the test-retest method. The results indicate a three-factor structure of the phenomenon, as well as satisfactory psychometric properties of the inventory.

The purpose of this paper concerns the relation between delivery of electronic services (e-services) and evaluation of public administration performance. Public sector organizations should pay attention and determine the strategies to be followed in order to increase the satisfaction of citizens and businesses in relation to delivery of electronic services. The study aims to review the demands toward progress to the competitiveness, the sustainability, efficiency and effectives in public administration that have rapidly enforced the wide reforms in the public sector, in order to modernize the initiatives to offer better electronic services for the citizens. The article aims to present that the transformation process toward providing electronic services to the citizens should be assessed continuously, in light with challenges, demands and process of globalization, in order to strengthen the capacities of public administration and make it more efficient. In this regard, the regular evaluation and measurement of the public administration performance leads toward the promotion of enhanced public services and higher level of accountability. Through receiving the e-services, citizens can save their time, can reduce the expenses and create an easier access of communication with all levels of the government.

The article presents the possible role of consciousness in quantum-mechanical description of physical reality. The widely spread interpretations of quantum phenomena are considered as indicating the apparent connection between conscious processes (such as observation) and the properties of the microcosm. The reasons for discrepancies between the results of observations of the microcosm and macrocosm and the potential association of consciousness with these reasons are closely investigated. The mentioned connection is meant to be interpreted in the sense that the probable requirement for a complete understanding of quantum theory is the adequate description of consciousness within it and that the correct theory of consciousness should include quantum-mechanical theoretical apparatus. In this context, the question about the methods of scientific cognition is discussed, in particular, the problem of the place and the importance of intellectual intuition in science and philosophy of science. The author draws the conclusions about the current state of the “measuring” consciousness. problem in its relationship with

The main purpose of this publication was to try systemizing the efficiency per-formance with particular regard to technical efficiency and measurement methods, and to identify the problems in defining and measuring the existing problems. The paper presents definitions of efficiency by selected authors, the classification and characterization of vari-ous types of efficiency made with particular emphasis on technical efficiency, and the basic methods for testing the effectiveness of the division on the indicator parametric and para-metric detailing the different measurement methods. A detailed analysis of the non-parametric methods for testing the effectiveness of technical support is the DEA (Data En-velopment Analysis) method presented with the example of the procedure for calculation of relative efficiency. The study identifies various modifications of the DEA method and also signalled areas where this method can be used to measure the effectiveness of specific enti-ties. The main research method used in the present study was to review and analyze the lit-erature on the subject topic.
