The article focuses on the collection of 17 brooches stored in the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard. They are dated to the 13th and 14th centuries. Their form and ornament match ring brooches which are being discovered in the Baltic region and in the area where Hanseatic trade was conducted. The majority of the Stargard objects were recovered during archaeological excavations.

W artykule przedstawione zostały związki pomiędzy cechami osobowości, a upodobaniem do słuchania muzyki metalowej w świetle dotychczasowych badań psychologicznych.

The article presents the relations between personality traits and preference for metal music in view of previous psychological research. First reports concerning the influence of personality traits on music preferences appeared in the middle of the 20th century (Cattel & Anderson 1953). Social stereotypes relating to heavy metal fans have had an impact on formulation of research hypotheses according to which this group is characterised by antisocial behaviour, suicidal tendencies, depressive moods, substance and alcohol abuse, school problems and dysfunctional families. However, past researches have demonstrated a predictive value of different traits, such as openness to experience, risk-taking, extraversion and sensation seeking.

It has been widely argued that metal played a decisive role in the development of Mycenae, which became one of the foremost centers on the Late Bronze Age Greek mainland. Yet, little is understood as to how metals were integrated into the lives of the inhabitants. Most scholarship has concentrated on the relationship between the ruling class and metal artifacts, drawing much of their evidence from the Linear B archives and top-down models of trade, society and internal redistribution that are increasingly considered untenable within the study of other aspects of Mycenaean life. This paper introduces a new project designed to investigate this issue by using a practice-orientated approach based around object biographies to study the use of metal across the entire social spectrum of the Late Bronze Age community at Mycenae (approximately 1700–1050 BC). The decision to take such an approach is justified through the presentation of a case study, based upon hitherto unpublished previous research, that examines the unexpected rarity of gold vessels in the Palatial period archaeological record from the perspective of social practice; its purpose is to demonstrate how the holistic use of evidence from multiple sources, as envisaged in this new project, can help overcome the difficulties inherent in the study of the use of metal in past societies.

In different cultures the world is described by a variety of signs and symbols. Equally important as reading their meaning is an attempt to describe the relationships between them. Often seemingly unrelated elements of culture are linked by relations on a symbolic level. Research on the relationship between hoards (late Bronze Age and early Iron Age) and local settlement networks indicate such a symbolic connection between border and metal. Understanding these relationships is possible mainly thanks to empirical research yet it would not be possible without analysing the perception of borders and metal, as well as phenomena such as territoriality and the valorization of ‘foreign’ objects, places and people.

The paper deals with the leakage of nitric acid in road transport (ADR); its specifications, problems and complications during its leakage from the tank into the environment. The first part describes specific characteristics and their means of transport. Following part discusses the experimental investigation of the specific characteristics of HNO3 . The experiments on reaction of nitric acid in contact with diesel, gasoline, valvoline engine oil and coolant as well as with samples of common vehicle’s materials such as iron, aluminium, copper, tire rubber, ABS plastic and asphalt. Reactions observed not always met the expectations of strong reactions as described in Security data sheet. The third part describes a possible ways of acid leakage from the tank and its disposal. Recommendation concerning effective action of Fire units are described in order to stop the leaking and minimize the damage caused by nitric acid.

One of the many factors which has been creating the west culture is the Judeo-Christiantradition based on the Bible. Motives, quotations and symbols that are coming from the Biblehave been permeating to the European languages as well as they have influenced both thehigh culture and the popular culture. Moreover, the biblical inspirations can be found in metalmusic as well. The underlying paper constitutes an attempt of brief characterization when itcomes to more original biblical motives that are constantly appearing in the lyrics of metalbands, simultaneously, it emphasizes a slight current interest of this biblical aspect in thescientific researches.

The text aims to investigate methods and techniques introduced by Scandinavian designers which are beneficial to the overall sensorial aspect of their work. To emphasize the wide spectrum of the subject, various materials would be taken into consideration-wood, glass, metal, textiles. Thanks to the analysis of selected case studies it is possible to showcase the main ideas of how the multisensorial design practices have been implemented within the realm of Scandinavian design, focusing on diversity of examples. The methodology applied uses the analysis method of design history combined with the perspective provided by cultural studies and their analysis of the broad context. To enrich the latter, also certain cultural associations will be considered. Wood provides the visual, tactile, and olfactory experience which has been used in both conceptual and commercial projects. Glass, often considered by designers exclusively for its visual aspects, brings the tactile element of shape and structure, which are meant to mimic the contact with nature, vital for many Nordic projects. Metal and textiles can be considered as opposite sensorial features based on contrasting properties, hot–cold, soft–hard. The study serves as an introductory paper to touch upon the question of multisensory in Scandinavian design, not thoroughly investigated in international literature, by presenting further opportunities for in-depth studies.
