The purpose of the paper is to analyse the issue of a test method in economics. It calls for the necessity of adopting a methodological approach that will be flexible and cognitively inspiring, which is a prerequisite to establishing the foundations for economics, its development and effectiveness in clarifying social and economic phenomena. Currently believed to be a complex (both theoretical and empirical), and inductive-deductive science, economics fails to possess binding methodological arrangements. Therefore, when looking for good solutions, scholars propose universal pluralism, which lets them expand the research apparatus within defined, yet not tightly logical structures.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie podstawowych założeń podejścia – określanego dalej jako „integralne”, które miałoby połączyć te dwa rozbieżne wymogi: pluralizmu i integralności. Tłem dla podejścia integralnego jest uporządkowanie podejść spotykanych w metodologii na pluralistyczne i monistyczne. Podejście integralne stanowiłoby także próbę przezwyciężenia fundamentalnego podziału na podejście przyczynowe i symboliczne, który wyraźnie zarysowany został już w dyskusjach XIX-wiecznych. W rozważanej tu wersji podejścia integralnego zasadnicze założenie dotyczy odpowiedniego wykorzystania wnioskowań kontrfaktycznych w taki sposób, by wyodrębnić istotne przyczynowo zjawiska, a następnie wśród nich określić czynniki reprezentatywne dla wszystkich rodzajów badań. Szczególnie zauważalne jest to w przypadku prowadzenia zróżnicowanych metodologicznie badań różnych płaszczyzn ontologicznych.

The purpose of the article is to present the basic assumptions of the approach – hereinafter referred to as “integral”, which would combine two divergent requirements: pluralism and integrity. The background for an integral approach is to organize the approaches found in the pluralistic and monistic methodological standpoints. An integrated approach would also attempt to overcome the fundamental distinction between causal and symbolic approaches that has already been clearly outlined in the discussion of nineteenth-century. As contemplated herein the essential assumption of the integral approach concerns the use of a suitable counterfactual inference so as to extract causes of the relevant phenomena, and then determine factors representative for all types of studies involved in a given research process. Particularly noticeable is the case for conducting methodologically diverse studies of different ontological levels.

Artykuł prezentuje naukowe ujęcia polskich badaczy zjawiska niepełnosprawności w perspektywie historycznej i współczesnych interdyscyplinarnych opracowań teoretyczno-empirycznych. Humanistyczne i społeczne rozpatrywanie fenomenu niepełnosprawności tworzy nową, interdyscyplinarną przestrzeń poznawczą. Badacze coraz wyraźniej akcentują mocne strony, możliwości i siły rozwojowe osób z ograniczoną sprawnością. Z tej perspektywy niepełnosprawność nie jest postrzegana wyłącznie jako problem jednostkowy. Uwidacznia się potrzeba podejmowania pogłębionych i wielowymiarowych rozpoznań empirycznych uwzględniających społeczny, kulturowy oraz polityczny kontekst funkcjonowania osób z niepełnosprawnością. Artykuł ukazuje osiągnięcia polskich badaczy, wpisujące się w nurt z drugiej połowy XX w. – Disability Studies. Autorki prowadzą analizy przeglądowe w zakresie paradygmatów niepełnosprawności, ukazania pozytywistycznej i humanistycznej orientacji badawczej, pluralizmu metodologicznego oraz interdyscyplinarnego ujęcia fenomenu niepełnosprawności.

The article presents Polish researchers’ scientific approaches to the phenomenon of disability in a historical perspective and in view of modern interdisciplinary theoretical and empirical studies. Humanistic and social approaches to disability create a new, interdisciplinary cognitive space. Researchers highlight the strengths, potential and developmental power of people with disabilities more and more clearly. From this perspective, disability is not perceived as an individual problem only. It is becoming apparent that it is necessary to carry out detailed and multidimensional empirical investigations that take into consideration the social, cultural and political context of how people with disabilities live. The article looks at Polish researchers’ achievements that fit in with the trend dating from the second half of the 20th century – Disability Studies. The authors review and analyze paradigms of disability to show positivist and humanistic research orientations, methodological pluralism and an interdisciplinary approach to the phenomenon of disability.
