Celem artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie problemu obszarów rolnych w miastach na przykładzie Krakowa. Problematyka ta jest bardzo aktualna ze względu na zmianę w przepisach prawnych dotyczących odrolnień gruntów w miastach. Autor w zarysie przedstawił aktualny stan rolnictwa miejskiego i dynamikę zmian powierzchni użytkowanych rolniczo w latach 1995-2008 na terenie Krakowa oraz potencjalną rolę obszarów rolnych w kształtowaniu miejskiego systemu przyrodniczego.

The goal of this paper is to mention the problem of agricultural areas in cities on the example of Kraków. The issue is highly topical due to the amendment of legal regulations concerning changing the status of farm lands (from agricultural to residential). The author has outlined the current condition of urban farming and the dynamics of changes in surfaces areas of arable land in Kraków in 1995-2008, as well as the potential role of agricultural areas in shaping the urban natural system.

W artykule przedstawiono część wyników badań wykonanych w projekcie badawczym własnym pt. „Obszary rolne jako element struktury przestrzennej miast – problemy planistyczne”, realizowanym w Instytucie Rozwoju Miast w Krakowie pod kierownictwem autora niniejszego artykułu. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wpływu urbanizacji na zasoby użytków rolnych w Krakowie. Podjęto także problem skażenia gleb w mieście metalami ciężkimi oraz ekologicznej roli gleb w środowisku.

In this paper, the author presents some research outcomes obtained under an individual project entitled “Agricultural Areas as Elements of the Urban Spatial Structure: Planning Matters,” carried out under the author’s supervision in the Institute of Urban Development in Kraków. The purpose of the paper is to present the influence of urbanization processes on arable land resources within the city of Kraków. In addition, the author discusses the problems of urban soil pollution with heavy metals and the ecological role of soils in the environment.
