Artykuł przedstawia formację etnologiczną w Misyjnym Seminarium Duchownym Księży Werbistów w Pieniężnie (MSD), jej zakorzenienie w „tradycji Anthropos”, pracę naukowo-dydaktyczną kadry w zakresie etnologii i religioznawstwa oraz aktywność praktyczną studentów. Rozpoczynając rozważania od działalności pierwszego seminarium duchownego werbistów w Sankt Gabriel koło Wiednia, autor zwraca uwagę, że szczególnie w latach 30. XX wieku był to prężny ośrodek formacyjny i naukowy, który nie tylko kształcił setki studentów, ale również mógł się poszczycić wyjątkową kadrą naukową. Tam zrodziła się tradycja Anthropos, która wychodząc od postawy Arnolda Janssena i Józefa Freinademetza oraz działalności Wilhelma Schmidta została zaszczepiona na całe Zgromadzenie Słowa Bożego. Tradycja ta była impulsem do podjęcia badań etnologicznych przez pokolenia werbistów związanych z MSD w Pieniężnie oraz międzykulturowego ukierunkowania formacji misyjnej. Choć Pieniężno jako ośrodek formacyjny nie odgrywa dziś znaczącej roli, tradycję Anthropos kontynuują domy formacyjne i instytuty badawcze werbistów w krajach pozaeuropejskich.

The article presents the ethnological formation in the Missionary Seminary of the Divine Word Missionaries in Pieniężno its roots in the Anthropos tradition, research and teaching of the staff in the field of ethnology and religious studies, and practical activity of students. Beginning with the activity of the first seminary of the Divine Word in Sankt Gabriel near Vienna the author points out that it was a thriving formation and research centre especially in the 1930s, which not only educated hundreds of students but also boasted an exceptional academic staff. There the Anthropos tradition was born which, starting from the attitude of St. Arnold and Joseph Freinademetz and the activities of Fr. Wilhelm Schmidt were instilled in the entire Congregation of the Divine Word. This tradition was an impulse to undertake ethnological research by generations of Divine Word Missionaries related to the seminary in Pieniężno and intercultural orientation of mission formation. Although Pieniężno as a formation centre does not play a significant role today the Anthropos tradition is continued by formation houses and research institutes of the Divine Word Missionaries in non-European countries.
