This article is devoted to show the common grounds of Czech and other European literature. Images of birds have an imposing tradition of use in Czech literature. They are characterized by a variety of meanings and history of existence. There are both traditional and everyday folklore images, such as mythologeme of raven for the first one, and geese for the second, which have different semantic workloads. Discussion of the image of birds in the Czech literature is the basement of conclusions about the common ground that brings Czech and European literature together. Moreover, it also gives us more details about Czech national identity, the specifics of its literary schools and movements and the originality of the author’s vision of the world.

The article deals with the comparative analysis of two plays, The Winners’ Feast by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Maria’s Field by Oleg Bogayev which, being united by the war theme, belong to different generations. More or less explicit implications present in both plays make it possible to view the Russian history as a form of national mythology.

Artykuł został poświęcony analizie funkcjonowania motywu nieśmiertelności w powieściach poetyckich Leonida Horłacza (Mamaj, Ruina, Czyste pole, Palec Askolda, Wyspa Słowiańska). Na podstawie prac P. Bargara, A. Wesełowskiego, І. Dziuby, J. Morgana, І. Realizacji analizowanego motywu sprzyjają mitologemy, symbole i alegorie (nić Mojr, ogień, sad, pszczoła).

The article deals with the analysis of functioning of the immortality motif in L. Horlach’s poetic novels (Mamay, Ruin, Open Field, Askold’s Finger, Slavic Island). Based on the works of P. Bargar, A. Veselovskij, I. Dziuba, J. Morgan, I. Silantev and S. Thompson, the scecific nature of the motif as a literary element is presented. The relevance of the study is determined by the mythological origin of the invariant motif of immortality, its unique role in Ukrainian (and world-wide) culture and the lack of studies on this topic, all based on L. Horlach’s works. This paper shows the writer’s use of pagan and Christian traditions in describing the afterlife, the understanding of immortality as a feature of a deity or as a reward and punishment for people. The motif of immortality is also connected to the concept of memory, fame and the contribution of personalities to the common goal. The motif is analyzed using mythologies, symbols and allegories (the thread of Moirai, fire, garden, bee).

Mythopoetic thanatology in Serhiy Zhadan’s poetry The article deals with the mythologem of death in Serhiy Zhadan’s poetry. The author argues that both traditional Ukrainian culture and the universal symbols of human consciousness are sources of thanatological images in Zhadan’s collections Life of Mariia (2015) and Knights of the Temple (2016). The author focuses on the implementation of thanatological themes through the motifs of family, memory, oblivion, loss, and return. Moreover, she claims that Zhadan uses the mythical semantics of the images of primordial elements, house, serpent, and bird to demonstrate the spatial metaphor of the lost homeland.
