The relationship between names and culture is multidimensional, and it also leaves a distinct mark on the practice of name research. The paper will present onomastic methods in the context of revealing the relationship between names and culture. Culture in its broadest sense is present in almost all onomastics research, but some of these methods more consciously expose it in such a way that it becomes methodologically dominant. The emphasis will be placed on these methodologies, their tools, ways of describing names, and results of the research in the form of conclusions of a culturewide character. The cultural categories of “name-ness” will be highlighted as crucial for the onymic categorization of reality, and therefore postulated as crucial for the cultural research of names.

Związki między nazwami a kulturą są wielowymiarowe, odciskają one również wyraźne piętno na praktyce badania nazw. W referacie zostaną przedstawione metody onomastyczne w kontekście ujawniania relacji między nazwami a kulturą. Szeroko pojęta kultura jest obecna niemal we wszystkich badaniach onomastycznych, ale niektóre z tych metod bardziej świadomie ją eksponują w taki sposób, że staje się dominantą metodologiczną. Akcent zostanie położony na te właśnie metodologie, ich narzędzia, sposoby opisu nazw i efekty badań w postaci wniosków o charakterze ogólnokulturowym. Wskazana zostanie kategorie kulturowa „nazwowości” jako kluczowa dla onimicznego kategoryzowania rzeczywistości, a w związku z tym postulowana jako kluczowa przy kulturowych badaniach nazw.
