W klasycznym podziale warunków decyzji (pewność, niepewność, ryzyko) niepewność definiuje się jako nieznajomość prawdopodobieństwa. Badania D. Ellsberga wskazały na konieczność wyodrębnienia niejasności jako czwartego rodzaju uwarunkowań decyzji, pośredniego między niepewnością a ryzykiem. Niepewność jest jednak pojęciem bardziej złożonym, jest ona powszechnie doświadczana w odniesieniu do ważnych kwestii innych niż całkowity lub częściowy brak wiedzy o prawdopodobieństwie. W artykule wyróżniono wiele kategorii niepewności, ilustrując je przykładami z dziedzin, takich jak: zachowania konsumenckie, oszczędzanie, inwestowanie i przedsiębiorczość. Na koniec pokazano niektóre sposoby radzenia sobie z różnymi rodzajami niepewności.

The purpose of the present paper is to demonstrate both the historical background of the prototype theory and its denitional problems. It presents two fundamental tenets of cognitive linguistics and the origin of prototype theory. Eleonor Rosch introduced her theory (1975) in order to explain how semantic categories are perceived by our mind.
