The COVID-19 pandemic affected the elderly in a special way. On the one hand, it contributed to the increase in health deficits and those related to social isolation. On the other hand, it also had a significant impact on the level and methods of support provided to seniors. The pandemic situation turned out to be a particular challenge for local governments and non-governmental organisations operating in various areas of senior policy. The general aim of the article was to analyse the state’s initiatives aimed at counteracting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic addressed to seniors and examples of activities of the local government and the civil sector cooperating with it for the benefit of this group of people. In turn, the specific objective was to identify and understand the greatest difficulties that seniors had during the pandemic and the role played by the non-governmental organisation (both during the pandemic and as an entity of potential support in the future, which was particularly interesting given the European Union promoting services provided in the local environment). In connection with the specific objective, qualitative research was carried out using the in-depth interview method. The interviews were based on scripts that concerned four areas: problems and experiences of the elderly during the pandemic, help and support, communication, health, and well-being.

In the spring of 2019 it was the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first social organisation on the land of Niedrzwica – the Agricultural Circle. It is a symbolic date, indicating the century-old social activities of the residents of this commune near Lublin. These activities took various forms – from agricultural associations initiated by the landed gentry, highly developed cooperatives, the work of Voluntary Fire Brigades, expanding women’s activities, grass-root initiatives to erect public-utility buildings, and cultivating folk traditions and culture by folk groups, to contemporary, already diverse, activities involving numerous social groups of residents in various spheres, also with the use of mass media. Local leaders – community activists, promoters of positive changes – played an extremely important role in this activation. Over the past century, the forms of social work have changed, but individuals and organisations have always been guided by the overarching idea – selfless work for the benefit of the Niedrzwica community, which is a real phenomenon on a regional scale, and confirms the existence of the civil society.

Весной 2019 года исполнилось 100 лет с момента создания первой общественной организации на неджвицкой земле – сельскохозяйственного кружка. Это символическая дата, указывающая на вековую социальную активность жителей этой подлюблинской гмины. Деятельность эта принимала различные формы – от сельскохозяйственных объединений, инициированных землевладельцами, сильно развитой кооперативной деятельности, деятельности добровольческих пожарных бригад, общественной активизации женщин, массовых инициатив в строительстве общественных сооружений, культивирования народных традиций и культуры народными коллективами, до современной многопрофильной деятельности, ангажирующей многочисленные социальные группы жителей в различных сферах, в том числе с использованием средств массовой информации. Чрезвычайно важную роль в этой активизации сыграли местные лидеры – общественные деятели, пропагандисты позитивных изменений. За прошедшее столетие формы социальной активности изменились, но у отдельных лиц и организаций всегда была всеобъемлющая идея – самоотверженная работа на благо гмины Неджвица, которая является настоящим феноменом в масштабах воеводства и подтверждает существование гражданского общества.

Wiosną 2019 roku minęło 100 lat od powstania pierwszej organizacji społecznej na niedrzwickiej ziemi – Kółka Rolniczego. Jest to data symboliczna, wskazującą na wiekową już działalność społeczną mieszkańców tej podlubelskiej gminy. Działalność ta przybierała różne formy – od stowarzyszeń rolniczych, inicjowanych ze strony ziemiaństwa, przez silnie rozwiniętą spółdzielczość, aktywność Ochotniczych Straży Pożarnych, aktywizację kobiet, inicjatywy oddolne budowy obiektów użyteczności publicznej, kultywowanie tradycji i kultury ludowej przez zespoły ludowe, po współczesną już zróżnicowaną aktywność angażującą liczne grupy społeczne mieszkańców w różnych sferach, również z wykorzystaniem środków masowego przekazu. Niezwykle ważną rolę w tej aktywizacji odgrywali lokalni liderzy - społecznicy, propagatorzy pozytywnych zmian. W ciągu minionego stulecia formy pracy społecznikowskiej zmieniały się, ale zawsze jednostkom i organizacjom przyświecała nadrzędna idea – bezinteresowna praca na rzecz niedrzwickiej społeczności, która jest prawdziwym fenomenem na skalę wojewódzką i potwierdza istnienie społeczeństwa obywatelskiego.
