Smart agriculture in animal production has been implemented when livestock breeders were seeking possibilities for maximize the production efficiency and increasing the stocking density of their herds, and on the other hand, from the need to maintaining animal welfare, saving time and labor. As a consequence, there was a need for frequent and more detailed information to breeders about the health, activity, well-being and performance of their animals, as well as for precise quality assessment, and the need to monitoring the productivity of agricultural crops.

Inteligentne rolnictwo w produkcji zwierzęcej zrodziło się z chwilą, gdy hodowcy zwierząt gospodarskich z jednej strony dążyli do maksymalizacji wydajności produkcji i zwiększenia pogłowia zwierząt w stadach, z drugiej zaś z potrzeby zachowania zasad dobrostanu zwierząt, oszczędności czasu i nakładów pracy.

W ramach pracy przeprowadzono badania wełny trzech polskich ras owiec.

The wool of three Polish sheep breeds was investigated. Basic physical properties of fibres: length, diameter and strength were determined and surface morphology using scanning electron microscope were studied. It was stated that raw fibres are coated by significant quantity of a grease. After removing of the grease on the fibres surface fine scales are observed. For all three breeds the fibres are short and thick. The fibres length and thickness is characterized by significant diversity. The fibres exhibit low strength and high elasticity.

Sermo 46 of St. Augustine’s, offered for meditation in the 24th and 25th week of the Liturgy of the Hours, is entitled De pastoribus. The scriptural basis is constituted by the reading of Ez 34 : 1–16 where the prophet criticizes the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves and not their sheep, and announced the Lord’s promise to feed his people himself. Augustine, by using an actualizing, allegorical exegesis, develops his homily to describe a true Christian shepherd distinct from a mercenary. The latter only searches for his own interest and honour, symbolized by the sheep’s milk and wool. His selfish attitude causes damage: the strong sheep become weak, then sick and in the end are lost. For Augustine the scattering of the sheep signifies approaching heretic and schismatic groups. The bishop of Hippo disputes especially with the donatists. He emphasizes that Christ is the foundation of our salvation, the only Good Shepherd whose sheepfold is the Catholic Church throughout the world. The shepherds are good when they belong to that sheepfold, and following Christ they accomplish their mission to feed the sheep. The meaning of priesthood is indeed to serve God’s people by proclaiming the Word, distributing the Sacraments and promoting unity. The priest accomplishes Christ’s work and not his own. Therefore his responsibility is immense, since it deals with the eternal life to which God will welcome all those who faithfully served him.

Niższy poziom wsparcia w Polsce i innych krajach UE spowodował spadek pogłowia owiec.

The influence of the changes in subsidizing principles on the sheep breeding in Poland and in the EU countries is presented. The lower level of support in Poland and in the other EU countries is influencing a reduction of sheep population. Growing costs of the means of production and a lack of financial liquidity have contributed to the liquidation of many flocks of sheep. The lamb meat production has been decreasing. Its imports and exports have stagnated. Production trends have been identical in Poland and in the EU countries. Ovine production requires subsidies from the state budget or other forms of support

Zmianom uległy wysokość i formy wsparcia.

Influence of the Polish integration with the European Union on the economic situation of sheep breeding farms is presented. The research data used in the article were taken from publications by GUS, IERiGŻ-PIB and directly from farms in the Podlasie region. The predominating product from sheep farming in XXI century is meat. Reducing production to meat has caused a drastic reduction of sheep population. Decreasing population of sheep and production of lamb meat have a negative influence on the economic situation sheep farms. The main factors that could improve it are the lamb meat price and payments of a subsidy for sheep breeding from the EU and domestic budget. The cost of fodder has a big influence on profitability. The costs of fertilizers and of the means of chemicals plant protection are included in the costs of own fodder production. A big influence could have a growth of consumption of lamb meat in Poland. For proper organization of internal market farmers must create producers’ groups.

The context of the research undertaken was the different description of the structure of the Ez 34 text by different commentators of Ezekiel. The aim of the research was to discover the structure that the ancient author planned and wrote down. The method of Hebrew rhetoric, developed by Roland Meynet, was used. The following research results were achieved: a fragment of Ez 34,1-10 has a parallel-concentric structure with the scheme A, B, C, B', A'. Fragment Ez 34,11-31 also has a parallel-concentric structure with the same scheme A, B, C, B', A'. The conclusion that can be drawn from the text under examination is that the Book of Ezekiel is current today.

The mention of sheep diseases already appeared in the work of Cato the Elder. In the following centuries, Columella and Palladius described the diseases of sheep and goats which they knew. The message of Kassianus Bassus Scholastik is extremely valuable because the set of diseases presented by him looks different than in the case of the subsequent authors later on. The differences in the described diseases may result from both drawing from other sources and from geographical specificity. Kassianus wrote in the eastern part of the Roman Empire, while the older messages primarily referred to Italy. Due to the climatic and geographical differences, some diseases found in the western part of the Empire were not very common in the east and vice versa. Diseases such as scabies or ulcers, the occurrence of which is not geographically determined, have been taken into account by all of the authors.

W kolejnych wiekach Kolumella i Palladiusz opisali znane im choroby owiec i kóz.
