Wzajemne stosunki między Kościołem a państwem są na ogół bardziej precyzyjnie określone przez dwustronne umowy międzynarodowe, nazywane zazwyczaj „konkordatem”. Są to akty normatywne, których celem jest ustabilizowanie relacji między Kościołem a państwem. Niezależność i autonomia Kościoła i państwa, potwierdzone poszczególnymi punktami konkordatu, są koniecznym warunkiem prawdziwego dobra człowieka, na które umowa taka jest ukierunkowana. Wyzwania, które stawiają przed nami dzisiejsze czasy, wymagają współpracy Kościoła i państwa, a konkordat właśnie ma jak najlepiej służyć i wspierać taką współpracę. W artykule zaprezentowany jest konkordat zawarty między Stolicą Apostolską i Republiką Słowacką, jego geneza i treść na tle innych konkordatów oraz umowy parcjalne zawarte przez Republikę Słowacką ze Stolicą Apostolską.

The relationships between Church and State are generally more precisely defined by bilateral international agreements, usually called “concordats”. These are normative acts whose purpose is to stabilize the relationships between the Church and the State. The independence and autonomy of the Church and the State, confirmed by the individual points of the concordat, are a necessary precondition for the true good of man, to which such an agreement is targeted. The challenges put before us these days require the cooperation of the Church and the State, while the concordat should serve and support such cooperation. This article presents the concordat concluded between the Holy See and the Slovak Republic, its genesis and content compared to other concordats and partial agreements concluded between the Slovak Republic and the Holy See.
