This paper presents an attempt to describe Józef Tischner’s philosophy of drama from the point of view of Larry Laudan’s philosophy of science. That is achieved with the help of the concept of Philosophical Research Traditions developed in the paper. A~certain conceptual problem of Tischner’s philosophy, and some future research topics are also presented.

The text presents an interpretation of the axiological background of Article 17 of the Polish Code of Medical Ethics. The interpretation uses elements of Józef Tischner’s philosophy of values. The author employs the concepts of axiology to describe the special dynamics of deontology contained in Article 17, which refers to the situation of informing the patient about an unfavorable prognosis regarding his health. Instead of descriptions of everyday situations of this type, the reader receives a reconstruction of the system of values and demands in which the doctor resides, inspired by Tischner’s philosophy.

Tekst prezentuje interpretację aksjologicznego tła artykułu 17. kodeksu etyki lekarskiej, w której wykorzystane są przede wszystkim elementy filozofii wartości Józefa Tischnera. Autor posługuje się pojęciami aksjologii, by opisać szczególną dynamikę deontologii zawartej w artykule dotyczącym sytuacji informowania pacjenta o niepomyślnych rokowaniach co do jego stanu zdrowia. Zamiast opisów powszednich sytuacji tego typu, czytelnik otrzymuje inspirowaną przede wszystkim filozofią Tischnera rekonstrukcję układu wartości i roszczeń, w którym znajduje się lekarz.

The paper aims to pinpoint one of the main interpretational problems of Józef Tischner’s philosophy – the dispute around the notion of scene, which is the basic concept in Tischner’s ‘philosophy of drama’. It is as well strongly connected with theatre studies. That is why it is common to regard Tischner’s philosophy in a theatrical context. On the other hand, Tischner’s scene is also referred to world of entities, which in traditional philosophy was a field of ontological investigates. Both abovementioned tendencies are a result of misunderstanding Tischner’s thought and they lead to the wrong interpretation of his philosophy of man. Yet according to Tischnerman does not play in a drama as an actor on the scene, but rather he is a dramatical being. Proper understanding of Tischner’s notion of scene is essential to understand his philosophical project and to recognize its value and novelty.

The question of what it means to be a dramatic being is synonymous with a question who is the man of the media and what his existence is based on. The act of communication is a dramatic act rooted in human existence. Opening up to another person, to the drama scene and the passing time forms the essence of dramatic existence. Each act of communication with reference to others is an opportunity to rediscover human deposit inscribed in his nature. The article analyses the act of communication of a person in the philosophical perspective of Joseph Tischner’s drama. This analysis reveals the philosophical dimension of the process of communication.

The German researcher of the philosophy of religion, Bernhard Welte (1906–1983), looking for an answer to the question about the substantive relationship between philosophical thinking and religious thinking, does not provide a final answer, but allows some discussion and polemics. This way of practicing the philosophy of religion is interesting because this problem is juxtaposed with the problem of man and his experience of existence. Thanks to this narrative, it is possible to pose more demanding ethical questions. In the further deliberations of this author, there are, inter alia, reflection on what a person’s life could look like without the “presence” of religion in his life (also in the aspect of relating to being a non-believer), also in the ethical aspect. It can be said that in a similar key - anthropological and ethical - he presents his position on the problem of “philosophical thinking versus religious thinking”, the Krakow philosopher Józef Tischner (1931–2000). This thinking is based both on his concept of the philosophy of drama, as well as on the experience (direct and indirect) of the believer. This reflection is “torn” between a specific topos (temple) and the people who come to a particular temple and create a specific community. The aim of the article is an attempt to answer the question of what religious thinking is as perceived by Tischner, as well as to specify his position in the aspect of the contemporary crisis of understanding the community in terms of the philosophy of values.
