Learning routinized formulas is one of the relevant and effective components of foreign vocabulary acquisition. Therefore the lemmatization of such set phrases and the way they are explained in mono- and bilingual dictionaries for foreign language learners is of importance. The paper presents German and Polish routinized formulas listed in the dictionary Langenscheidt Słownik Premium Niemiecki, polsko-niemiecki, niemiecko-polski (2014). The analysis of selected items as examples shows, especially with respect to pragmatic phraseologisms, not only some issues concerning selection of appropriate equivalents but also signals the need for inclusion of additional lexicographic information (e.g. in the form of glosses) which could facilitate correct understanding and application of the examined routinized formulas by dictionary users.

In the past decades the lexicographic research was increasingly focused on the role of new tools such as corpus-based methods in the practical and theoretical work. Sulikowska compares in this paper the description and definition of a German idiom jmdn. kalt erwischen in monolingual and bilingual dictionaries with corpus-based analysis of its form, frequency, meaning and grammar. She indicates relevant differences between its lexicographical description and the actual meaning and emphasizes the importance of supporting compilers‘ work within corpus linguistics.

The last twenty five years have brought an increasing interest in phraseologisms. The article presents contemporary research on Polish phraseology — the author systematizes phraseological studies and describes their main achievements. The following issues are presented: — phraseologisms as units of language — phraseologisms as a part of lexical resource — phraseologisms as exponents of the relation: language — human — culture — phraseologisms as elements of texts and style — phraseologisms as objects of lexicography. The present research is both a continuation of the studies from the 1970s and 1980s and new approaches to phraseology.

The article Between phraseography and language use. The idiom ‘ein heißes Pflaster’ in dictionary and in corpus concerns the problems of a comparison between descriptions and definitions of a German idiom ein heißes Pflaster in the monolingual and bilingual dictionaries with a corpus-based meaning analysis. In the centre of the study remain the problems of the context-inducted polysemy in monolingual dicitionaries and the problem of the imagery in the bilingual German-Polish phraseography.

A lexicographical approach to the contrastive analysis of Bulgarian and Polish phraseologyThis article discusses the concept behind The Lexicon of Active Bulgarian and Polish Phraseology [Leksykon aktywnej frazeologii bułgarskiej i polskiej] and provides an overview of the key aspects of the methodology used for selecting and composing the dictionary’s entries. The authors outline the theoretical underpinnings of this project, touching on the issue of interlingual equivalence, and explain both the process of selecting and verifying phraseological material and the methodology of presenting lexicographical information in the Lexicon. The article includes various examples of active phraseological units from both languages. Konfrontacja językowa bułgarskiej i polskiej frazeologii – podejście leksykograficzneW artykule przedstawiono podstawowe założenia koncepcji i metodologii układania Leksykonu aktywnej frazeologii bułgarskiej i polskiej. Autorzy prezentują teoretyczne podstawy badania, poruszają problem ekwiwalencji międzyjęzykowej, zasad wyboru i weryfikacji prezentowanego materiału frazeologicznego, metodologii przedstawienia informacji leksykograficznej w Leksykonie. Materiał jest zilustrowany różnorodnymi przykładami aktywnych jednostek frazeologicznych w języku bułgarskim i polskim.

On The dictionary of active Polish and Ukrainian phraseology [Leksykon aktywnej frazeologii polskiej i ukraińskiej]. Contrastive linguistics and cultureThe Dictionary of Active Polish and Ukrainian Phraseology [Leksykon aktywnej frazeologii polskiej i ukraińskiej] is the first publication of its kind in the history of Polish and Ukrainian lexicography. It consists of equivalent phrasal units in Polish and Ukrainian. The innovative aspect of the lexicon is that it uses a semantic metalanguage to establish equivalent units. The authors developed a new method of searching for equivalent units which uses the meaning - not the form - as the starting point. This method enables the identification of equivalent units in both languages. Moreover, it enables the identification of units that do not have equivalents. The units which lack equivalents are usually deeply rooted in Poland’s or Ukraine’s historical and cultural context, and are thus defined as culturemes. Even though they lack equivalents, it was decided not to exclude them from the Leksykon’s structure, as they are actively used by the speakers of Polish and Ukrainian. This paper provides an overview of the Leksykon’s methodology and presents the authors’ definition of phraseologism. The most important points in the paper are illustrated with a number of example entries from the dictionary. The primary focus of the paper rests on phrasal units which lack equivalents. O Leksykonie aktywnej frazeologii polskiej i ukraińskiej.

Among linguists there is a lively interest in phraseology, which is still a relatively young branch of linguistics. However, its basic descriptive application, phraseography, whose task is to collect and describe phraseological expressions of a given language, is still a rather neglected area, at least in terms of integrating theory into practice. The paper reports on two relatively modern phraseological dictionaries of German and takes up the question of their user-friendliness. It examines the notion of phraseme in these dictionaries against the background of František Čermák’s conception of phraseology. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that both dictionaries are in need of substantial improvements if they are to become really effective tools for resolving language problems, which is the essential function of every dictionary. Nonetheless, some of the special features of Deutsche Idiomatik by Hans Schemann deserve recognition and make the dictionary exceptional. For this reason, the paper voices the need for a discussion of Schemann’s phraseographical works in Czech linguistics, or, more precisely, in Czech phraseography. In addition, the paper comments on DUDEN 11: Redewendungen. Wörterbuch der deutschen Idiomatik which is probably the most popular German dictionary of this type.

The paper is dedicated to some selected units of biblical origin in the Polish language, namely fixed word combinations (idiomatic expressions). The author is trying to answer the question whether the collection of such units has the qualities of a closed set, or demonstrates a contemporary tendency to multiply its resources. What is essential for this description is the division into primary and secondary units of biblical origin. Apart from historical data and conditions, which are linked with this issue of Polish phraseology, the paper also contains several examples of the processes, as a result of which the language acquired new phrases of biblical origin.

Der Beitrag stellt eine phraseograhische Einzelstudie am Beispiel des verbalen Idioms "in Watte packen" dar. Das Ziel der Analyse liegt in der Festlegung, in wie weit die Bedeutungserklärungen in einsprachigen Großwörterbüchern sowie die Äquivalentenwahl in zweisprachigen deutsch-polnischen Großwörterbüchern dem authentischen Usus entsprechen, auf den anhand des DWDS-Korpus' geschlussfolgert wird.

The article is an individual phraseographic analysis realized on example of a verbal idiom "in Watte packen". The aim of the analysis is to establish the relation between an explication of meaning of a phraseme in large monolingual dictionaries, the choice of equivalents in large bilingual dictionaries and the real language use in German corpus DWDS.

This paper deals with the lexicographic description of phraseologic units in online dictionaries. Bilingual electronic dictionaries are not limited by space capacity, unlike paper dictionaries. Besides they offer the possibility of searching, selecting, and complementing lexicographic data in several ways, linking to other information sources such as electronic corpora. These factors influence the lonna! of the presentation of phrasemes and remove many problems with multiword expressions, which print dictionaries have to tackle. The discussion first involves the selection of phrasemes. IImakes sense to find fixed expressions useful for foreign language learners and distinguish between the ones relevant for the active usage and those for the reception. It could be taken into account by lexicographers to lemmatise phrasemes both as headwords of their own as well as under each component, as a part of their microstructure. The second question is what is the appropriate citation fonn to be entered. The current lexicographic practice tends to lemmatise vernal phrases in the infinitive fonn, however this may be confusing because of several morphological and syntactic restrictions. Therefore it seems mora adequate if verllal phrases occur in the fonn indicating the slots in the valency like jd. zieht jdn. Ober den Tisch. On the other hand the citation fonn should indicate grammatical, lexical and pragmatic variation by the means of typography and proper examples, e.g. from a corpus. Obligatory, facultative, and alternative components should be marked as well. The different lexicographic practices were discussed on the example of phrasemes with the component Tisch from bilingual Gennan-Polish dictionaries such as Pons, Leo, Bab.la, and Glosbe as well as two phraseologic dictionaries.
