A new paradigm in theology, termed evolutionary theology, supports the understanding of ecology as the proper ordering of the relations between living organisms and their environment. It is argued that evolutionary theology yields a unique conceptual framework in which the human species share a common history with the entire Universe and respecting nature’s integrity means securing a common destiny to everything that exists. This is a powerful motivation for adopting a balanced ecological attitude aimed at respecting nature’s inherent integrity. Furthermore, proposing theological arguments to substantiate ecological claims will help neutralize the objections that religion as such promotes anti-ecological attitudes. Such objections become more pressing when religion focuses exclusively on the afterlife in the immaterial and eternal world to come, and neglects the well-being of the material and temporal Universe.

Despite many arduous attempts to reconcile the separation between theology and science, the common ground where these two areas of intellectual inquiry could converge has not been fully identified yet. The purpose of this paper is to use evolutionary theology as the new and unique framework in which science and theology are indeed brought into coherent alignment. The major step in this effort is to acknowledge that theology can no longer dialogue with science but must assume science and its method as its conceptual foundation. This approach successfully does away with any tensions that may arise between the two disciplines and establishes a firm ground on which neither of them will turn into ideology. Moreover, it enables the dialogue with contemporary scientific atheism on solid grounds and the restoration of the credibility of theology in the secularist culture of the day.

The article aims at reconstructing and comparing the cultural meanings contained in the concepts friend and enemy. To achieve the objective, the author referred to research methodologies elaborated by cognitive linguists. Particularly useful were those approaches which emphasize the necessity of including both the role of cognitive processes in descriptions of language and its historical, cultural and social underpinnings. In such approaches, questionnaires and surveys are accepted as sources of empirical data. In the current study, an analysis of the specific connotations attached to the concepts friend and enemy in Polish, German and Russian is performed. The obtained results allow for creating a hierarchy of the criteria that speakers of the three languages take into consideration, and for establishing significant similarities and differences between the Polish, German and Russian semantic profiles of the two concepts.

The purpose of the study is to show narrative (narration) as a category that combines individual elements of knowledge, expressed through language, and, thus, ensures the cohesion of the linguistic and cultural picture of the world. In the light of this concept, the linguistic-cultural picture of the world is understood as a dynamic, multi-layered narrative depending on the accepted points of view, intentions, approaches and methods of conceptualization, categorization and axiologization of reality adopted in this culture. This article deals with the narrative of human life, which creates the expressions in Polish and Russian that contain verbs of movement. The analysis of the chosen phrases allows us to determine how similar life experiences are perceived in both languages, as well as to what extent the cultural conditions and the genetic proximity of both languages have an influence on similarities in the image of human existence.

The study elucidates a topical problem related to the manifestation of characteristic parametric features of such important concepts as the lingual picture of the world, the conceptual picture of the world, the artistic picture of the world. In the course of the investigation, the process of formation of linguoconceptology as an independent field of research is considered, the meaning of the term linguoconceptology is clarified, the object and subject of this approach along with its purpose and objectives are revealed. We conclude that linguoconceptology is based on the identification and study of concepts, as well as means that represent them. The picture of the world is a set of ideas of a person about the world. Conceptual and lingual pictures of the world are intertwined: the former objectifies knowledge in the human mind, which is accumulated through the lingual picture of the world, though it is much broader; the latter implies a means of studying certain individual or national characteristics of human behaviour through modelling concepts. The artistic picture of the world stands out as it is built on the basis of the actualisation of both objective and subjective representations of the world simultaneously, as well as on human consciousness, which borders on the unconscious and illusions

Balázs Mezei, in an essay entitled Demythologizing Christian philosophy: an outline, criticizes the position he describes as “cosmotheology”. By this he means a philosophical refl ection on the world that is strongly conditioned by the pre-Copernican conception of the universe. In his opinion, the only solution to the problem of “cosmotheology” is to “demythologize” philosophy, freeing it from all cosmological conditions, which constitute only an unnecessary burden. Michał Heller presents a diff erent attitude. He argues that theology – that is, rational refl ection on Christian revelation – must take into account what in many publications he calls “the current image of the world.” Science is supposed to be a specific locus theologicus: a source of refl ection and theological argumentation. A theologian cannot turn his back on such important issues for modern science as the Big Bang theory, the eternity and infinity of the universe, fine tuning of the initial conditions of the universe. These data from the natural sciences can not only inspire but also point to new ways of understanding classical theological theories. It is the concept of “inspiration” that seems to be central to the approach that we have defined as “the new theo (cosmology)”. On a few selected examples we want to show how, on the basis of the latest cosmological data, Heller shapes the “new theology”, creatively refl ecting on questions about the creation of the world, its eternity, and Providence caringly supporting the existence of the universe.
