This article features the analysis of the basic assumptions of the PWN Great Russian-Polish Dictionary in the context of translation didactics. The following aspects of the above-mentioned lexicographic work were analysed: presentation of polysemy and homonymy, social and equivalent-lacking lexis, common and substandard vocabulary and proper nouns. Moreover, the inconsistent and excessively limited use of the field and stylistic labels as well as illustrative material was emphasised.
