Information management is extremely important for organizations. This is so since the quantity and quality of information influence a decision making process, and with an increase in the value of information, the risk of failure and the uncertainty of the possible occurrence of unwanted effects are reduced. The accuracy of the decisions that have been taken depends largely on the quality of information that is at the receiver’s disposal. For the proper functioning of an organization, it is essential for the received, processed, analysed and communicated information to be of adequate quality, i.e. it should have a cluster of features determining its usefulness, defined by information users. The paper emphasises the fact that large amounts of information and data that can be observed in organizations force one to take action connected with improving the information system, which will ensure the provision of information of adequate quality. Taking care of the quality of information will improve the communication and information processes to a large extent. It will also reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and enhance the process of performing tasks. Therefore, in order to eliminate information that is redundant and of low quality, it is necessary to introduce effective mechanisms that will make it possible to measure and assess information quality. As the author observes, the analysis of the research findings enables one to assert that the quality of information has a considerable influence on the effectiveness of information processes, communication process, performed tasks, the decision process in organizations, and on the reduction of bureaucracy. It has an important role in the functioning of an organization.
