The author makes an attempt to seize certain symptoms of science popularisation on the  Internet shown from the point of view of the institutional and individual subjects. Theforms of the popularisation presence in the electronic medium were presented on the drawn background covering only the significant Internet discriminants and methodological revaluations caused by the spreading of the concept of discourse. The drawn transformations related to the existing so far bundle of style features of popular-scientific texts include focussing on an initiation of addressee’s interests, stimulating his/her interest and satisfying this interest. An increase of the transfer stimulativeness is additionally supported by an inter-semiotic, inter-active and in a greater extent institutional character of the activities popularising scientific knowledge.

The article includes a discussion of two models which describe contemporary communication processes in journalism: agenda-setting and news value, indicating the need to expand their research tools to include qualitative methods, and merging the analyses of the reception and the message. It also includes indications as to the possibility, or even the social relevance, of the methods for applying those research perspectives to analysing journalism popularising science. Later, I present the results of an analysis of the content of a sample of 500 most read popular science texts available on the New Scientist website. I demonstrate which thematic areas were valued by the readers, and what values are most commonly applied. Further, upon applying a filter in the form of surveys regarding reader preferences, I discuss the main linguistic devices utilised for controlling readers’ attention. The shaping of the hierarchy of importance of items of news is the result of a dynamic interaction between (1) the thematic priorities and discursive strategies of imposing elite representations of science within media agenda, and (2) the means of negotiating order and values of specific content, which are correlated with readers’ preferences, both in terms of the content and the form of providing popular scientific information.

This article presents various teaching methods that include an experimental approach to the gymnasium and high-school physics curriculum. Various methods of an interdisciplinary approach between physics and other sciences, technology and the students’ everyday life are presented. A sample laboratory lesson focusing on electrical circuits in the gymnasium curriculum is also included. Cases presented in the article are based on informal education practices, such as academic science encouragement programmes and NGO experiences.

Popularisation of knowledge in Volyn Junior/Senior High School in Krzemieniec (1805–1832) was one of the forms of teachers’ activity. It enjoyed great fame among the local population, as a spectacle rather than on account of its intellectual value. It took place during the school year and during final public examinations (performances). Numerous audiences gathered at the experimental shows presented by Karol Jentz, professor of physics, as well as at practical gardening sessions conducted in the botanical garden by Karol Witzell, gardener. However, the school authorities had an ambivalent attitude towards this activity. On the one hand, the efforts of teachers were appreciated, on the other hand the spectacular nature of the shows raised serious reservations or even the reluctance of the superiors.

This study analyses STEM identities in STEM fields represented in popular films. The authors argue that the recently produced big-budget popular films directly or indirectly affirm STEM characters with their portrayal of STEM fields. This analysis focuses on how popular narratives can be an essential tool to communicate the idea that women can be scientists and how they can inspire young women to enter science. These narratives reflect a significant problem in the interactions between the audience and science. The audience thinks the scientists are heroes and the public expect that scientists will automatically accept scientific solutions to problems. Nevertheless, scientists find a solution in these films, and everything gets better. Thus, recent popular STEMthemed big-budget films provide identification with the audience and STEM characters. These narratives construct an alternative STEM discourse by breaking down gender stereotypes and dominant ideology. These films can be coded as films that produce ideology against the dominant ideology and patriarchy, especially regarding STEM, character and gender representation. There is a positive change in the hierarchical order in the STEM field and the representation of women and Others. And these representations do not have any marginalisation.

The article presents the development of the Urania from 1921 to 1958. The aims, tasks, formal presentation, contents and history of the periodical are outlined alongside the popularisation activities of the Association of Polish Amateur Astronomers, which published journal at the time. Its distinguished members, professors of astronomy, occupied the position of editors, taking care that the publication was high quality. The oldest Polish journal dedicated to the popularisation of astronomy is still published today in an altered form, and this article is another contribution towards telling its story in book form.
