Wstęp. Praca ma charakter poglądowy. Przedstawia dostępne badania na temat postaw Polaków wobec niepełnosprawnych. Niniejszy artykuł pokazuje teoretyczno-prawno-medyczne rozważania z zakresu niepełnosprawności, socjologiczno-psychologiczne definicje postaw społecznych oraz ich uwarunkowania wobec osób niepełnosprawnych. Materiał i metoda. Podstawą artykułu jest literatura przedmiotowa oraz wyniki niezależnych badań opisujących postawy Polaków wobec niepełnosprawnych, także niepełnosprawnych psychicznie. Wyniki. Za podstawowe uwarunkowania postaw wobec niepełnosprawnych autorka uznaje cechy społeczno-demograficzne, wiedzę na temat niepełnosprawności, częstość kontaktów z osobami niepełnosprawnymi. Polacy mają co najmniej ambiwalentny stosunek do niepełnosprawnych psychicznie, a jednocześnie uważają choroby psychiczne za chorobę wstydliwą. Odmawiają chorym prawa do pełnienia ról społecznych związanych z odpowiedzialnością. Wnioski. Polityka wobec niepełnosprawnych zmierza w kierunku integracji z pełnosprawnymi. Zmiany świadomości i wiedzy Polaków nie zmieniają się w sposób rewolucyjny. Im wyższy status społeczny, tym bardziej pozytywne postawy wobec niepełnosprawnych.

Background. The article shows the available research on Polish attitudes towards the disabled. This article shows the theoretical and legal and medical considerations in the field of disability, socio-psychological definition of social attitudes and the attitudes and the conditions for people with disabilities. Material and methods. The base of the article are the combination of chosen sociological concept of disabled results of independent researches. The results of independent researches in attitudes towards disabled were also presented. Results. The basic determinants of attitudes towards disabled author recognizes the socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge about disability, the frequency of contact with people with disabilities. Poles have at least an ambivalent attitude towards the mentally disabled, and claim mental illness as shameful disease. Conclusions. Policy towards the disabled is moving towards integration with non-disabled. Changes in awareness and knowledge of Poles do not change in a revolutionary way. The higher the social status the more positive attitudes towards disabled people.
