The authors present the physiology of articulation of selected speech sounds in Polish. They also revise the usefulness of popular tongue exercises such as teeth counting, “cat’s back”, tongue rolling, touching the nose with the tip of the tongue, pushing the cheeks, etc. – from articulation therapy requirements. The knowledge concerning primary and secondary tongue movements as well as basic facts about tongue anatomy and physiology have also been introduced and organized in the article.

In the article the author presents the results of initial research of disorders of the oral phase of swallowing and breathing in children of preschool age. She points out the relationship between breathing, swallowing and the development of child’s phonetic and phonological system. The aim is to identify the existing difficulties of the patient to plan speech-therapy with the focus on achieving proper articulation.

The aim of this article is to capture the influence of shortened tongue frenulum (ankyloglosia) on primary functions such as breathing, sucking, swallowing, as well as on food activities – biting and chewing. The publication is a review and is an attempt to combine the available professional literature (national and world) on the above topic, as well as to discuss the conclusions from the cited studies. One of the paragraphs is devoted to several cases of children with ankyloglossia and its impact on primary activities in these children. The article also includes own reflections and considerations from the literature and case description discussed in the publication, children with shortened sublingual frenulum.

The article presents preliminary results from the research on the biological determinants of speech in theatre academy students. The aim was to establish the frequency and intensity of the observed disorders. Analysis of the results inclines to ask questions – how early should entrants begin preparing for the exam; whether the speech diagnosis in case of young actor should differ significantly from the standard procedure?

As a secondary function, speech is based on others. The progress of speech is therefore related to the development of the primary functions, and the activity of organs involved in speaking is related to their positions or movements during e.g. breathing or eating. The movements change as the child grows and develops. Moreover, the activity of the organs (proper or improper) affects the organs’ shape (proper or improper). The article was conceived as a tool to analyze the activity of organs involved in speaking to help speech therapists find grounds for their patients’ problems.

Mowa jest czynnością sekundarną, ponieważ człowiek przystosował do realizacji tej czynności struktury przeznaczone pierwotnie do wykonywania innych – prymarnych – czynności. Rozwój mowy pozostaje więc w ścisłym związku z rozwojem i przebiegiem tych czynności, a motoryka narządów artykulacyjnych kształtuje się stopniowo wraz ze wzrostem i rozwojem dziecka dzięki realizacji i transformacji tych czynności. Niniejsze opracowanie zawiera wybrane wskazówki dla logopedów w zakresie oceny motoryki narządów wykorzystywanych podczas mówienia.

Autorki przedstawiają fizjologię artykulacji wybranych głosek języka polskiego, a także dokonują rewizji przydatności popularnych w polskiej logopedii ćwiczeń języka typu: liczenie ząbków, koci grzbiet, rulonik, wznoszenie języka w kierunku nosa, w kierunku policzków itp. – z punktu widzenia usprawniania realizacji fonemów. W artykule zostaje również uporządkowana wiedza na temat motoryki prymarnej i sekundarnej języka, a także podstawowa wiedza dotycząca budowy i fizjologii języka.
