In light of the study presented above, Polish students relatively less frequently assessed themselves as entrepreneurial in relation to Slovak students. It is also worrying that almost every second Polish student could not assess oneself in this respect. The following factors had a noticeable impact on the self-assessment of entrepreneurship: sex, field of study, age, activities in student organizations, type of university, professional activity and place of residence of the respondent. In both groups, the most important factors determining professional work was professional satisfaction, stability and the possibility of promotion. It is evaluated that currently, in terms of the exhaustion of extensive ways of economic development, the human capital generates economic growth to a greater degree than material capital . Human capital is a resource closely associated with a given person, enriching and developing both in one's personal and professional life, and its main source is education. In a knowledge-based economy the preparation of students and graduates for participation on the labour market mostly depends on tertiary educational institutions, thus the direction and intensity of a region's socio-economic development. Therefore, it is clear that the period of higher education is a special moment in the course of the educational path for acquiring and improving skills and professional competences, as well as shaping appropriate attitudes. Given the current labour market trends and processes, attitudes and competences in the scope of entrepreneurship are particularly important for young people entering the labour market
