Stanisław Lorenc graduated from the Wrocław University, where he obtained his master degree in geology. In 1973, he was awarded a doctoral degree, in 1980 he obtains habilitation (postdoctoral degree) and in 1994 he was promoted to full professor. In 1988 Stanisław Lorenc moves to Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and became a director of the Institute of Geology. He gained a global reputation as an explorer of the ocean floor. In the years 1996–2002 professor Lorenc was the vice-rector in the team of the then rector, prof.  Stefan Jurga. In the years 2002–2008 he was the rector of the University of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Rector's term of  Stanisław Lorenc covered a wide spectrum of  scientific research, education, development of the scientific staff, international cooperation and  cultural, sporting and social activities, student affairs and infrastructure. The most important at the university for prof. Stanisław Lorenc were people of academic and administrative staff, students and all those who collaborated with the university. Saying farewell during academic senate the rector, prof. Andrzej Lesicki, said: You were not only a great rector, an outstanding scholar, but also, and perhaps above all, a good, warm man. Professor Stanisław Lorenc died on January 19, 2020. He was 77 years old.

The article analyzed the content of Art. 227 part 2 of the polish Higher Education Law (from 27 July 2005). In accordance with this rule the rector determines the university area in consultation with the competent authority of local government. There were indicated numerous ambiguities associated with the application of this rule as well as his implications on the field of administrative, civil and criminal law. It proposed several methods for determining the university area. It was also found de lege lata that if the university area designations are within the territory of more than one municipality, the right solution seems to be agreement between rector and the council of each of these municipalities individually. If the subject would exceed the capacity of the municipality (or municipalities) authorities, then, according to the principle of subsidiarity, district would be appropriate unit of local government, followed by the voivodeship.

Professor Jacek Fisiak’s outstanding achievements are well known in the scholarly community in Poland and abroad. He was an excellent and widely recognizable scholar, an exceptional teacher and talent-detector, an ingenious science manager, and he was so likeable and cordial! Professor Jacek Fisiak directed the Institute of English at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań for 40 years. Thanks to his management, English studies in Poznań obtained a leading position among such institutions in Poland and in the world. Professor Fisiak also cared about other English departments in Poland. On the one hand, he supervised 61 (!) PhD students who continued their academic careers throughout Poland, on the other, he supported English studies as well as the humanities and research in general as Minister of National Education and member of numerous influential bodies. I am grateful to Professor Fisiak for his guidance in my academic work, starting with my M.A., through the doctoral and post-doctoral degrees and the professorial title, my function as his deputy director for 3 terms, up to the ‘take-over of the command’ of the Institute and the creation of the Faculty of English. His opus survives and will last.

The academic community of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow is constituted by: the authorities, the academic teachers, the lecturers, the administration office workers, and the students, of course. By the common and combined effort, they all must strive for continuation and development of the prominent past of the university. By doing this, the university will build up its future for the sake of the Church, Poland, and Europe.

Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje kwestię kwalifikacji rektora wyższego seminarium duchownego w aspekcie kanonicznym. Najpierw ogólnie ukazano przepisy mówiące o zdatności do pełnienia urzędu rektora seminarium. Następnie skoncentrowano się na problematyce przymiotów ludzkich rektora seminarium. Z kolei przedstawiono walory duchowe rektora. Wreszcie skupiono się na zaletach naukowych i praktycznych kapłana pełniącego tę funkcję.

The article discusses the issue of qualifications of the rector of the major seminary in the canonical context. First, in general terms, it outlines the rules specifying the capabilities which are necessary to hold the office of the rector of the major seminary. Next it focuses on the question of human attributes of the rector of the major seminary. It also enumerates the spiritual virtues of the rector. Finally it describes the scholarly and practical qualities of the mentioned priest.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie polityki finansowo-podatkowej prowadzonej przez władze komunistyczne wobec Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego w latach 1944-1989. Analiza dokumentów podatkowych jednoznacznie wskazuje, że ustawodawstwo finansowo-podatkowe w okresie komunizmu było niezwykle skutecznym narzędziem pozwalającym na realizację wrogiej KUL-owi polityki władz komunistycznych.

The aim of this study accordance with its title is the present policy of financial and tax carried out by the communist government against the Catholic University of Lublin, 1944-1989. The analysis of tax documents clearly indicate that the financial and tax legislation during the communist period was an extremely effective tool for the implementation of the KUL hostile policy of the communist authorities.

The article focuses on the theoretical and practical analysis of various levels of governance in higher education - at the systemic level, at the institutional level and at the level of public policy making in higher education system and universities. Both Poland and Ukraine are facing the common challenges of the urgent need to diminish bureaucracy at universities and to deregulate the system of higher education, which requires the necessary changes to the legal framework at the institutional and systemic levels. The article considers which tools in the process of transformation of higher education, both at the macro (governance in HES and public policy) and micro (governance and management in HEI) levels can be used in order to find effective solutions in the areas of management, governance and public policy in the higher education system.

Artykuł poświęcony analizie teoretycznej oraz praktycznej różnych poziomów rządzenia (governance) w szkolnictwie wyższym - na poziomie systemowym, instytucyjnym i na poziomie polityki państwa wobec systemu szkolnictwa wyższego oraz uniwersytetów. Zarówno Polska, jak i Ukraina stają wobec wspólnego wyzwania konieczności odbiurokratyzowania działania uczelni i deregulacji systemu szkolnictwa wyższego, co wymaga niezbędnych zmian reguł ładu instytucjonalnego i systemowego. W artykule pokazano, jakie narzędzia w procesie transformacji szkolnictwa wyższego zarówno na poziomie makro (governance in HES i polityka publiczna), jak i mikro (governance i management in HEI) mogą być wykorzystane w celu podejmowania skutecznych rozwiązań w obszarach: zarządzanie, governance i polityka publiczna w systemie szkolnictwa wyższego.

Problematyka artykułu koncentruje się wokół zagadnień związanych z postawą władz komunistycznych wobec podejmowanych przez rektorów Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego inwestycji remontowo-budowlanych. Złożoność polityki państwa wobec KUL-u w sferze inwestycji budowlanych wynikała z wielu czynników, które kształtowały stosunek władz partyjno-państwowych do władz uniwersyteckich. W latach 50. i 60. władze komunistyczne skutecznie przeciwdziałały wielokrotnie podejmowanym przez rektorów KUL-u próbom rozbudowy zaplecza lokalowego uczelni. Kierowane do władz powiatowych i wojewódzkich wnioski z prośbą o zezwolenie na budowę nowych gmachów czy na rozbudowę istniejących już budynków rozpatrywane były odmownie. W latach 70. wraz z dokonującymi się na KUL-u zmianami polityka państwa wobec podejmowanych przez nowe władze uczelni przedsięwzięć budowlanych zmieniła się. W konsekwencji już w latach 70. przystąpiono do stopniowej rozbudowy gmachu uniwersytetu, która właściwej dynamiki nabrała w latach 80.

The issue of the article concerns issues related to the attitude of the communist authorities towards the renovation and construction investment undertaken by the rectors of the Catholic University of Lublin. The state policy towards building investments undertaken at the Catholic University of Lublin depended on the relationship of party-state authorities to this university. In the 50s and 60s, communist authorities opposed the attempts to expand the buildings of the university. Addressed to district and provincial authorities applications for permission to build and expand university buildings, were refused. In the 70s, with the changes that have taken place at the university, the attitude of the state to building investments undertaken by the new university authorities has also changed. As a result of these changes, it was possible to start a gradual development of the University’s buildings, which did not have the proper dynamics until the 80s.

Article in its content raises issues relating to one of the most important acts of an internal nature, functioning in the high school – the rules for granting financial aid. This aspect was presented through the prism of the general concept of the act, its features, as well as specialist literature and the jurisprudence of judicial administration. It was pointed out which provisions of the authors should be avoided, and that should apply so that the procedure of granting financial assistance took place in accordance with the law.

Artykuł w swojej treści porusza kwestie odnoszące się do jednego z najważniejszych aktów prawnych o charakterze wewnętrznym, funkcjonującym na uczelni- regulaminie przyznawania pomocy materialnej. Aspekt ten został przedstawiony przez pryzmat ogólnego pojęcia regulaminu, jego cech, a także specjalistycznej literatury i orzecznictwa sądowo administracyjnego. Wskazano, jakich postanowień autorzy powinni unikać, a jakie powinny obowiązywać  tak aby procedura przyznawania pomocy materialnej odbywała się zgodnie z przepisami prawa.

The article presents the results of own research, the aim of which was to get to know opinionson gender-based equal opportunities for academic employees of the oldest pedagogical universityin Poland among these employees and among the students. The results demonstrated the occurrence of gender discrimination at the university.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań własnych, których celem było poznanie opinii na temat równości szans pracowników i pracowniczek akademickich najstarszej uczelni pedagogicznej w Polsce wśród tychże pracowników oraz wśród osób w niej studiujących. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały, że w badanej uczelni występuje zjawisko dyskryminacji ze względu na płeć.
