Zubiri rejects Aristotle’s concept of causality and proposes a different one based on Christian Neoplatonic philosophy. Causality is one of the functionalities and consists in acting of reality as reality. In this context according to Zubiri humans acts which change the I are properly metaphysical causes.

Zubiri odrzuca Arystotelesa koncepcję przyczynowości i stwarza własną, opartą na chrześcijańskim neoplatonizmie. Przyczynowanie to jedna z funkcyjności. Polega ona na oddziaływaniu jednej rzeczywistości na drugą. W ten kontekst Zubiri wpisuje te ludzkie akty, które są związane z życiem osobowym, i uznaje te akty za prawdziwe przyczyny w sensie metafizycznym.
