Dignity is an interdisciplinary term, considered inter alia in the field of pedagogy. This article presents two concepts of dignity, i.e. the human, ontological one, to which everyone is entitled and the personal dignity connected with the nature of the a person, different for various individuals. Both concepts of dignity find their reference in education. This article presents as well the importance of self-esteem for cognitive and social functioning of individuals. In the face of the “humanity crisis” undertaking of the issue of dignity seems particularly justified.
