The topic of this article is the sacred of Irena Dowgielewicz’s writings. It is visible especially in the poems from volumes Sowing parsley (1963) and Stadium for ladybird (1970). Religiosity of these texts can be seen in various aspects. The author refers to the particular conception of God and heaven, to the relationship between man and Creator, but also to the primary sacrum. Among the elements and features of religious mainstream in Dowgielewicz’ poetry, a few intertwining ones can be distinguished: perception of world’s transcendent dimension and God’s presence; items elevation; sacralization of everyday life and everyday activities; God’s creatures participation in the act of creating reality; sanctification of rich and full of contrasts nature; canonization of memory of the past; elevation of homeland and of the earth-mother; transmission of pain; relatives’ sacralization; sanctification of motherhood and marriage; interpenetration of God’s creatures and works; consideration of life in the categories of the gift and the miracle; humble looking at the world, sensitivity, simplicity of expression and personal relationship with God. The poems of Irena Dowgielewicz sanctify almost every component of the reality created by God. Such sacralization mainstream builds a space of harmony and sense.

This article analyses poetic visions, based on synesthesia and referring to Swedenborg’s correspondence theory, evoked by listening to music. In these visions the musical impressions are in some way sanctified and they contribute to the development of the spiritual area. This aesthetic phenomenon is noticeable in Balzac’s novels. The music for him is the light penetrating the listener’s soul and a means of accessing divine mysteries. Similarly, in George Sand’s works music is the inspiration to create soulful poetic visions and the character of Consuelo who, by her singing, is vouchsafed by divine revelations.

The act of consuming in our new, global reality doesn’t have a lot in common with taking part in the classic ‘purchase and buy’ exchange relationship. The satisfaction of basic needs is no longer the main target of consumption. The contemporary consumer experiences a constant “hunger” and continual need for new objects and impressions, which is almost impossible to alleviate. It can cause frustration deepened by the feeling of spiritual emptiness. The article or the service itself becomes a fetish, indicating a change in relations between the object and subject. This is related to the revelation of a new dimension of consumption, which itself starts taking on the features of the sacrum. The act of shopping takes on a similarity to certain more sacral rituals. The „puzzle” of sales, special offers and special occasions such as holidays, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother’s Day etc, are the remains of the liturgical year. The impression of “sacralized consumption” is experienced in even greater depth when you step inside what has become known as the “new temples of consumption”, which take on the physical shape of the perfect space, full of harmony, where everything is fully controlled and totally safe, out of the context of time and place. The model of contemporary consumption gives a promise of immediate happiness and salvation, distracting the consumer from reality and giving him an ersatz of the medicine needed to treat his existential fears. Most members of Western society now accept this situation by taking part in it. The question is when they will start to reject those individuals who refuse this lifestyle and accuse them of acting against moral standards and the common good?

Both Catholics and later Protestants yearned to practice their faith at home. For both, the Last Supper held significance as it was then that Jesus requested the Apostles to drink wine and partake of bread, transfigured respectively into the blood and the flesh of the Lord. Catholics believed that the Transfiguration took place for real, hence their use of tin “Hansekanne” flagons with a pilgrim’s badge or devotional plaques inside them, most often with a scene of the Crucifixion. Protestants treated the Transfiguration in purely symbolic terms and used clay jugs with the scene of the Crucifixion depicted on the outside surface. Moreover, there is a clay plate with a scene of the Crucifixion, which presumably served to sacralize the bread that it held.

Text is an analysis of symbolic strategies, serving creation of Josip Broz Tito’s authority as the leader of the socialist Yugoslavia; it also reveals their cultural and political motivations. Author indicates three dominant factors in the process of cult creation, which are characteristic for the cult of personality in totalitarian systems; as such they also remain a specific continuation of traditions as a base of the local power culture. In this perspective, the Tito’s cult and political mythology as its frame is an endemic embodiment of mythological provincionalism with universal aspirations – typical for communism. The function of this cult is a consolidation of multi-nation community and legitimization of federal state formula in the conditions of immaturity of the local political culture.

The article presents the interpretation of the poetry of Bogusław Kierc in the context of philosophical references to the body, Christian mysticism and Communion, Agamben’s post-secular theory of nudity and the category of epektasis. Such elements of Kierc’s poetry as ‘leaning out of one’s body’ and erotization of Christ constitute the transgression against religious behavioral patt erns in an att empt to achieve absolute unity with God. Together with the poetics of sacralization, they reveal Kierc’s artistic att empt to emphasize the importance of the body and sexuality in a religious elevation and the possibility of experiencing it in the times of modernity.

The aim of this article was the analysis of the meanings of song and their transformations in the poem by Cyprian Norwid Do obywatela Johna Brown. As a result of interpretational close-ups (especially to the initial phrase and the climax of this poem) the polysemic song by Norwid appears not only as a lyrical genre, a term synonymous to poetry in general but also as an act with performative and transgressive features leading the lyrical subject – also through a specifically ‘musical’ shaping of this poem – towards the experience of epiphany of sacrum (Marian andChristological motives).

The article is about the phenomena of sacralization of the ruler in Russian literature of the 17th century. This phenomenon can be traced in the work of Michael Lomonosov. This exceptional polymath, scientific entrepreneur and pioneer of industry, among his contemporaries was primarily recognized as a poet. Among his literary works panegyric singing the praises of the ruling monarch was dominant. He compares the Tsar to God or directly gifts him with God-like characteristics. In his baroque poetry, he uses the picture of the ruler as a mythological god. This article grounds this literary heritage in the social context in which it was created and describes the functions that such literature plays. Finally, the article discusses the motives that Lomonosov had to pursue this type of poetry.

Artykuł dotyczy zjawiska sakralizacji monarchy w literaturze rosyjskiej w XVII w.

The Kojiki and Nihon shoki have been integral to the formation of Japanese identity, especially since the 18th century. As such, they were constantly exposed to processes of sacralization and desacralization, i.e., the attribution and removal of authority. The research project “Sacred Narrative – The Political Dimension of Japanese Mythology” is concerned with how certain systems of thought or ideology used these texts in a way that raised them to an elevated position or deprived them of it. Organized in three focus areas, the project delves into the topic of the historical change the Kojiki and Nihon shoki underwent in terms of interpretation and instrumentalization from the Edo period up to modern-day Japan. These investigations are integrated into the research group “De/Sacralization of Texts” at the University of Tübingen that started its work in January 2022. In this interdisciplinary context, “Sacred narrative” seeks to promote the integration of East-Asian textuality into general theory formation.
