The (Transforming) Role of Intellectuals in the Process of the “Atheization” of Czech Society in the 2nd Half of 20th CenturyThe article deals with resonance, development, and changes in various forms of atheism in the works of Czech, especially Marxist, intellectuals in the second half of the 20th century. Attention is also paid to their influence on public opinion, especially in connection with a rise in negative attitude of a large part of the Czech public towards religion. The study is based primarily on historical and discursive analyses of the works of principal authors from the 1950s to 1989. Among the authors discussed are important figures such as Ivan Sviták, Milan Machovec, and Vítězslav Gardavský. Rola intelektualistów w procesie „ateizacji” społeczeństwa czeskiego w drugiej połowie XX wieku i jej transformacjaArtykuł dotyczy oddziaływania, rozwoju i zmian różnych form ateizmu w twórczości czeskich, zwłaszcza marksistowskich, intelektualistów w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Omawia również ich wpływ na opinię publiczną, przede wszystkim w obliczu narastania negatywnego stosunku do religii u dużej części czeskiego społeczeństwa. Opracowanie opiera się szczególnie na historycznych i dyskursywnych analizach dzieł głównych autorów od lat 50. XX wieku do roku 1989, a zwłaszcza tak ważnych postaci, jak Ivan Sviták, Milan Machovec czy Vítězslav Gardavský.

Alister McGrath (born 1953) is one of the most famous living British theologians, and the scientific theology he created is considered by many to be one of the most interesting projects of contemporary theology. Alister McGrath is an Anglican priest; he holds doctorates in Molecular Biophysics (1977) and in Theology (2001) from the University of Oxford. He is mainly interested in the questions concerning the relations between natural and theological sciences. As a biologist, and also as an ex-atheist converted when he was adult, he is engaged in the argument with the so-called scientific atheism, holding regular debates with its prominent representatives. According to McGrath, now it is science that should play the same role towards theology as Platonism did in the patristic period, or Aristotelianism in the Middle Ages. As he writes, his work is an attempt at an interdisciplinary dialog between four partners having equal rights: theology, natural sciences, philosophy and history.

Alister McGrath (ur. 1953) jest jednym z najgłośniejszych żyjących obecnie teologów brytyjskich, zaś tworzona przez niego teologia naukowa przez wielu uważana jest za jeden z najciekawszych projektów współczesnej teologii. Alister McGrath jest duchownym anglikańskim, doktorem biofizyki molekularnej (Oxford, 1977) oraz doktorem teologii (tamże, 2001). Jego zainteresowania naukowe zdominowały zagadnienia dotyczące relacji nauk przyrodniczych i teologicznych. Jako biolog, a także jako były ateista, nawrócony w dorosłym wieku, jest bardzo zaangażowany w dyskusję z tzw. ateizmem naukowym, podejmując regularne debaty z jego czołowymi przedstawicielami. Zdaniem McGratha obecnie to nauka powinna pełnić wobec teologii tę samą rolę, jaką spełnił platonizm w okresie patrystycznym, czy też arystotelizm w średniowieczu. Jak pisze omawiany autor, jego praca jest próbą interdyscyplinarnego dialogu pomiędzy 4 równoprawnymi partnerami: teologią, naukami przyrodniczymi, filozofią i historią.
