The term morphogenetic field, in a corrupted meaning, is frequently used in the contemporary pseudoscience (see T. Witkowski, „Nauka” 4/2007, p. 149-157). In fact the term in question first appeared in the early twentieth century among the students of embryological development. In 1920s and 1930s it was considered an important concept and frequently used. Later, the concept of the morphogenetic field was eclipsed and ignored. In recent years with the emerging of evolutionary developmental biology, the field concept was restored as an important paradigm of embryology. Unfortunately, the term morphogenetic field is nowadays mostly known in a distorted meaning, introduced by R. Sheldrake. It seems that the famous Copernicus law, saying that the bad coin will drive the better one out of the circulation, reigns in the realm of scientific terminology.

In the last decade, robustness has been extensively mentioned and discussed in biology as well as in the philosophy of the life sciences. Nevertheless, from both fields, someone has affirmed that this debate has resulted in more semantic confusion than in semantic clearness. Starting from this claim, we wish to offer a sort of prima facie map of the different usages of the term. In this manner we would intend to predispose a sort of “semantic platform” which could be exploited by those who wish to discuss or simply use it. We do this by starting from a core distinction between the robustness of representations, which is a philosophy of science issue, and the representations of robustness, which instead pertains to science. We illustrate our proposal with examples from biology, physics and mathematics.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki wstępnych badań dotyczących terminologii matematycznej zebranej przez M.A. Troca w Nowym dykcjonarzu (1764). Terminy nauk matematycznych, do których w XVIII wieku należały: arytmetyka, geometria, astronomia, astrologia, geografia, mechanika, optyka, zostały ukazane w kontekście zmian wywołanych siedemnastowieczną rewolucją naukową oraz szerzej na tle dziejów polskich nauk matematycznych. Przedstawione analizy wyraźnie pokazują, że stan zarejestrowanej przez Troca terminologii matematycznej jest silnie skorelowany z procesami, które dokonywały się w europejskiej i polskiej nauce końca XVII i początku XVIII stulecia. W badanym materiale obserwujemy wysoką frekwencję terminów matematycznych, wśród których dominuje słownictwo geometryczne i arytmetyczne. Taki stan rzeczy wskazuje na przewartościowanie języka polskiej nauki i uczynienie z matematyki powszechnego i uniwersalnego narzędzia opisu świata.

The article presents the results of preliminary research on mathematical terminology collected by M. A. Troc in “Nowy dykcjonarz” (1764). The terms of mathematical sciences, which in the eighteenth century included arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, astrology, geography, mechanics and optics, were shown in the context of changes caused by the seventeenth-century scientific revolution, and more widely, against the background of the history of Polish mathematical sciences. The presented analyses clearly show that the state of the mathematical terminology registered by Troc is strongly correlated with the processes that took place in the European and Polish science at the end of the seventeenth and the beginning of the eighteenth century. In the examined material we observe a high frequency of mathematical terms, among which geometric and arithmetic vocabulary dominates. This situation depicts the re-evaluation of the language of Polish science and the process of mathematics becoming a common and universal tool of world description.

One consequence of the interdisciplinary nature of logopaedics is differences in terminology and descriptions between logopaedics, linguistics and medicine, even at the level of basic terminology. The difference is evident in logopaedics as a science, in the process of diagnosis and therapy between cooperating specialists and in the training of future speech therapists, right from the first steps in their education. The article discusses some selected differences in the terminology and descriptions between logopaedics and the disciplines on the research of which logopaedics relies. Moreover, the terminology of logopaedics is considered from the perspective of linguistics (mainly phonetics) and medicine

Jedną z konsekwencji interdyscyplinarności w logopedii jest występowanie różnic w stosowanej terminologii oraz opisach pomiędzy logopedią a językoznawstwem i medycyną, nawet na poziomie podstawowej terminologii. Ujawnia się to w logopedii jako nauce, na etapie diagnozy i terapii logopedycznej pomiędzy współpracującymi ze sobą specjalistami, a także w procesie kształcenia przyszłych logopedów, i to już od początkowych etapów edukacji. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane różnice w opisie i stosowanych terminach pomiędzy logopedią a dyscyplinami, z których dorobku ona korzysta oraz poddano ocenie terminologię logopedyczną z perspektywy takich dyscyplin, jak językoznawstwo (głównie fonetyka) i medycyna.

The year 1918 as reflected in the development of Czech terminology The objective of this article is to generally map the development of selected terminological nomenclatures with emphasis on the changes after 1918. We will outline the historical background on which the terminological work after 1918 was built, and illustrate the main terminological systems which were developed or stabilized after 1918. We will concentrate on the newly developing electro-technical, automobile, aircraft terminology and similar industries.
