The Faces of Contemporary Labour Market Segmentation

100%
EN
This article discusses the segments of contemporary labour markets and identifies the causes of evolution and the present-day manifestations and mechanisms of segmentation. To this end, changes occurring in the world today and the progress of research into labour market phenomena over the last 25 years are analysed. The article also provides an insight into the various types of labour market segmentation that underlie its functioning, i.e. competition-driven segmentation, informational segmentation, network-based segmentation and behavioural segmentation. The theoretical underpinning of the article is the concept of a dual labour market made up of a primary market and a secondary market. The analysis offers two main conclusions. Firstly, the labour market segmentation that we observe today causes an expansion of its secondary segment. Secondly, to identify the contemporary face of labour market segmentation, many extensive studies of the institutional, economic, social and psychological aspects of this process are necessary.

This paper addresses the educational policy and employability of secondary schools and institutions of higher learning graduates on the labour market. It is emphasised by us that education, training, science, research and innovations, informatization and digitalisation are considered at present by us to be the main pillar of knowledge society and economy. We refer to the fact that the government policy is directed towards utilisation of knowledge and creative potential with increase of requirements on professional competency of the people, on linking the theory and practice and on dual education. On the basis of the statistical data we are providing an overview of employability of graduates on the labour market.

The aim of this article was to analyse the metonymic use of onim Brussels in the press discourse. The research material consisted of about 350 examples of the secondary use of a proper name extracted from the texts contained in the weekly magazine “Polityka”, in the period from 1.01.2019 to 5.11.2019. Metonymy was described using the formula X (carrier) for U (target). It has been demonstrated that secondary use of the Brussels proper name is used to profile content depending on communication needs. The article presents profiles such as: institution (European Union), society (European Union board and Brussels government) and event (won in the election to the European Parliament).
