Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie dotyczące sposobu rozumienia rzeczownika ksiądz przez studentów. Badanie o charakterze diagnostycznym przeprowadzone zostało na Wydziale Humanistycznym Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej w Lublinie. Respondenci mieli do wykonania dwie dyspozycje: w pierwszej poproszeni zostali o wymienienie wszystkich słów, zwrotów, powiedzeń, które przychodzą im na myśl, kiedy słyszą rzeczownik ksiądz (skojarzenia swobodne otrzymane w sposób ciągły); druga natomiast dotyczyła sformułowania własnej definicji tego słowa. Przeprowadzona ankieta i wynikający z niej opis dowodzą wyraźnej ambiwalencji w ocenie księdza. Dostarczają też wielu innych ciekawych obserwacji o sposobach rozumienia i wartościowania przedmiotu refleksji, którego dotyczył sondaż. Wypowiedzi dotyczące księdza nie zawsze były formułowane wprost, niejednokrotnie zawierały sugestie, jaki powinien być, a – jak się można było domyślać – jakim nie jest. Zauważalny jest rozdźwięk między oczekiwaniami a rzeczywistością, a więc obrazem „prawdziwego” i „typowego” księdza.

The question is raised of how students happen to understand the noun ksiądz ‘priest’. Diagnostic in its intention, the study was conducted among students of the Faculty of Humanities, of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The subjects were given two tasks: the first one was to enumerate all the words and expressions that come to one’s mind when the word ksiądz is uttered/heard, which was meant to elicit free and continuous associations that the word may evoke. In the other task, the students were asked to formulate their own definition of the word ksiądz. A close analysis of the questionnaire results points to a clear ambivalence in how the priest may be judged or assessed. It also allows for many other intriguing observations about the students’ axiological and cognitive perspectives on the subject of the survey. It was not that the priest-related judgements were unequivocally expressed explicitly. They quite often were more of a suggestion of what the priest should be like, which implies, as can be understood, what the priest is actually not. There is, then, a marked discrepancy between expectations and reality, or, between the image of a “true” priest and that of a “typical” one.

Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie metafory jako środka tworzenia terminów w terminologii biologicznej. Оkreślonа została rola metafory w naukowym obrazie świata w języku ukraińskim i polskim. Оpisano skojarzenia, które stały się podstawą przeniesienia metaforycznego.

The article focuses on the analysis of metaphor as a way of creating terms in a biological terminology. Тhe role of the metaphor in creation the scientiﬁ c picture of the world of the Ukrainian and Polish languages has been described. It has been found out which associations became the basis of a metaphorical transfer.
