The presbytery o f the collegiate church in Żołkiew contains wooden stalls covered with polychromy. The original painted decoration was to a considerable degree concealed by the second layer o f oil repainting. Conducted studies determined the range and degree o f the preservation o f the original polychromy and its chemical composition. The polychromy was executed directly on w ood with plant-derived black mixed with egg white binder, and probably with the addition o f ferric-gallate ink. In the beam part, the ornament was painted on white priming ground whose fundamental component is calcium carbonate. A considerable part of the polychromy was transferred to the base with the help of suitable patterns. The whole was covered by semi-transparent resin lasing, only partially extant. Research into the repainting showed the satisfactory state of the original painted decoration of many elements of the stalls. Its form, similarly to the style of the carved decoration, carries distinct Manneristic features, combined with an earlier Late Renaissance element. Presumably, the stalls were made in the first quarter of the seventeenth century, and comprised one of the elements of the original church decoration. The author postulates complete conservation of the wooden construction, damaged to a large extent, and the removal of the repainting, followed by a conservation of the polychromy and the reconstruction of the missing fragments.

The Otwock construction style, created at the end o f the nineteenth century by Michal Elwiro Andriolli, earlier than the earlier Zakopane style devised by Stanislaw Witkiewicz, is little known and insufficiently appreciated. The summerhouse architecture o f the environs o f Otwock is an unique phenomenon on the scale o f Mazovia. Many wooden buildings representing the style in question are no longer standing and numerous examples are decaying; nonetheless, a number o f houses displaying magnificent w ood carving is still to be found. Unfortunately, methods o f protecting wooden houses built in the Otwock style and their preservation for future generations have not been proposed up to now. This problem cannot be solved by listing particular objects in a register o f historical monuments. The salvage o f existing buildings by their present-day owners cannot be achieved without the assistance o f municipal authorities and the State Service for the Protection o f Historical Monuments.

Zasługą opata były też liczne fundacje i starania o godne wyposażenie katolickiej świątyni funkcjonującej w pobliżu protestanckiego Gdańska. Skomplikowany program ikonograficzny ówczesnego ołtarza głównego spełniał kontrreformacyjne postulaty dotyczące sztuki.

In the Cathedral of Oliva there is an outstanding piece of woodcarving. This is the former main altar, which was built from the foundation of Abbot David Konarski’s nephew – Rafał Kos. The first information about the altar, formed in the years 1604-1606, can be found in the monastery chronicles written by prior Philip Adler. The time before the emergence of this art work abounded in the difficult events. As a result of the progress of the Reformation, conflict among abbots and the destruction of the Abbey in 1577, there was the economic crisis and monastic discipline has been loosened. Recovery process took on the rise under the rule of Abbot David Konarski, who restored the Abbey to the state of splendor. The merit of the Abbot was also trying for an impressive facilities for the Catholic church located near by the centre of Protestants situated in Gdańsk. Complicated iconographic program of the altar meets Counter-Reformation recommendations for art. This is a unique work of art. Excellent state of preservation and no subsequent interference highlights its exceptional value.
