It is a widely accepted view that the participation of young generations in organized sports activities has positive impacts both for the individual and the society. However, these positive impacts often does not reach those groups of the society, which would need the most these impacts for improving their chances regarding social participation and thus promoting integration of the society. The paper presents the results of a survey among young athletes inHungary, showing that the perception of the athletes in the sports clubs is very positive regarding the impacts of sports on their lives, but that young people from low-income and low-education families have very limited access to the sports clubs and so to the positive impacts of sports.

The author takes a look at the professional sports market and identifies its characteristic features. He analyzes literature on the economics of sports and the sports industry and describes the conditions underlying the operations of sports organizations, the features of sports goods, competition on the sports market, the functioning of sports clubs, and the behavior of buyers on this market. This allows Sznajder to determine the characteristic features of the sports business and the professional sports market. Sznajder notes that sports have become a major industry today and that the sports market is increasingly global in nature. Sports clubs are transforming themselves from nonprofit associations into commercial companies that seek to be profitable and economical. Governments are changing their approach toward sports, and the systems for financing sports are being modified. The sports market is dual in nature, Sznajder says, because sports companies these days must do business according to both the business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) models. These two markets involve different kinds of sports products and different marketing approaches. The sports market shows considerable differences among market entities and their goals. At the same time, sports organizations, which act as suppliers on this market, heavily depend on the behavior of sports fans as customers. All this makes the sports industry a regulated market, the author concludes.

The article discusses the origins of football on the territory of Germany and the gradual expansion of this sports discipline to the eastern provinces. The present study is an attempt to recreate, in a synthetic overview, the accomplishments of German football on the territory of the Prussian partition of Poland in the aspect of organizational development, games played, achievements of clubs and the successes of teams in sporting competition up to the outbreak of World War I. At the beginning of the 20th century, the German Football Association (DFB) was created, which coordinated the activities of football associations in particular provinces of the German Empire. This contributed to the development of football in the eastern provinces as well. Each year, more and more German clubs were formed; they took part in championship competitions at the level of districts and regional associations. Football teams representing the association participated in the Crown Prince Cup competition (Kronprinzenpokal). German games impacted on the initiation of Polish football development in this area, independently of the advance of the discipline in Galicia. The rapid growth of football was stopped by the outbreak of World War I. After the war, under the Treaty of Versailles and as a result of the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising, these lands returned within the borders of Poland, which caused mass emigration of Germans to the Reich. These facts brought about changes in the national and historical consciousness, resulting in the lack of interest in the issue of German football development in the Polish territories of the Prussian partition among sports historians of both countries. The development of German football and its impact on the growth of Polish football in Greater Poland, Kuyavia, and Gdańsk Pomerania were assessed on the basis of historical sources and scientific studies. Analysis of the extant source materials, press publications of that time and historical studies was also used.

The aim of the work was to identify the expectations of business entities which determine their willingness to take up and sustain sponsorship cooperation with sports clubs. The research was a pilot study. Data were collected with the use of a questionnaire. It was completed by the managers of companies sponsoring three sports clubs. The obtained results made it possible to indicate directions of sponsorship cooperation preferred by business entities, i.e. (1) form of activity, (2) allocation of resources, (3) participation of sponsors in financial audit and (4) rules of communication. The information collected and presented in this work makes it possible to optimise offers submitted to companies by clubs and may be used to shape positive mutual relations. Conclusions and observations made on the basis of the analyses may also be used by both sides engaged in sponsorship to achieve goals more efficiently and to sustain long-term cooperation.
