The use of airborne troops started on an extensive scale during World War II combat operations, and since then they have played a crucial role in the military systems of many countries, including those at the top of the list of military powers. Poland was one of the first countries to start coordinating airborne troops in the capacity of a tactical unit; and still deploys them till this day. This article presents the doctrinal conditions of the functioning of this type of troops in the military system of the Republic of Poland.

Wojska powietrznodesantowe zaczęto stosować na szeroką skalę w działaniach bojowych w czasie drugiej wojny światowej i od tego okresu odgrywają one istotną rolę w systemach militarnych wielu krajów, w tym zajmujących czołowe miejsca na liście potęg wojskowych. Polska była jednym z pierwszych państw, które zaczęły organizować wojska powietrznodesantowe w wymiarze związku taktycznego i posiada je do dziś. Artykuł przedstawia doktrynalne uwarunkowania funkcjonowania tego rodzaju wojsk w systemie militarnym Rzeczpospolitej.
