The main aim of the study was to present ministries and organizational units at the central level that were related to agriculture, the food industry and purchasing, which were present in the period of the Polish People's Republic. Ministries and organizational units were divided into two groups. One group included only those ministries that had the name "agriculture" in their name. This group includes the ministry of state-owned farms, which emerged from the division of the office of the minister of agriculture and agricultural reforms. The second group of ministries included agriculture-related ministries that served the broadly understood service of agriculture, including the provisioning, food industry, processing, purchase and contracting. The study covers the period from 1944 to 1989.

Podstawowym celem opracowania było przedstawienie występujących w okresie PRL ministerstw i jednostek organizacyjnych na szczeblu centralnym, które związane były z rolnictwem, przemysłem spożywczym i skupem. Ministerstwa i jednostki organizacyjne podzielono na dwie grupy. Jedna grupa obejmowała wyłącznie te resorty, które w swojej nazwie miały miano „rolnictwo”. W tej grupie umieszczono ministerstwo państwowych gospodarstw rolnych, które powstało z podziału urzędu ministra rolnictwa i reform rolnych. Druga grupa ministerstw obejmowała resorty okołorolnicze, które służyły szeroko rozumianej obsłudze rolnictwa, w tym aprowizacji, przemysłu spożywczego, przetwórstwa, skupu i kontraktacji. Opracowanie obejmuje okres lat od 1944 do 1989 r.
