This article is devoted to the study of the reception of the Ukrainian-Russian surzhyk language according to the opinions of mainly Polish students studying Ukrainian at the University of Wrocław. The methodology used in the research is based on the sociolinguistic analysis of a survey conducted among selected respondents. The responses to the question on the reception of surzhyk showed quantitatively a greater percentage of negative perceptions of this phenomenon. This was explained by the lack of great hybridization in the spoken Polish language and the high status of the state language in Polish society, among other factors. The results of the study show that for a more profound sociolinguistic study of surzhyk and its impact on the linguistic situation in the modern Ukraine, it is necessary to continue researching the perception of this subcode, also in Slavic studies centers outside Ukraine. This will help perceive the phenomenon from a broader perspective.

Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony został badaniu percepcji ukraińsko-rosyjskiego surżyka głównie w opinii polskich studentów, uczących się języka ukraińskiego na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim. Zastosowana metodologia opiera się na socjolingwistycznej analizie sondażu przeprowadzonego wśród wybranych respondentów. Odpowiedzi dotyczące pytania o odbiór surżyka wykazały ilościowo większy odsetek negatywnej wizji tego zjawiska, co tłumaczy się, między innymi, brakiem szeroko zakrojonej hybrydyzacji w polszczyźnie mówionej i wysokim statusem języka państwowego w społeczeństwie polskim. Wyniki badania wskazują, że w celu głębszego socjolingwistycznego opracowania surżyka i jego wpływu na sytuację językową w nowoczesnym państwie ukraińskim należy kontynuować badanie odbioru tego subkodu równieżw slawistycznych ośrodkach poza Ukrainą, co umożliwi postrzeganie analizowanego zjawiska z szerszej perspektywy.

The aim of the study is to reconstruct the views on the status and prestige of the Polish language in the end of the 18th century in the light of the book by Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski Myśli o pismach polskich. The work is cognitively attractive, as it gives a testimony to the status and prestige of the Polish language in the breakthrough period for the Polish state, i.e. just after the Third Partition, and even before the intensification of the tendencies to deprive Poles their national identity. In his book Myśli o pismach polskich, the author expresses an unshakable view of the high status of Polish and the shattered prestige. Institutions such as stable state power, capital, intellectual elites, scientific and critical publishing houses, periodicals, schools, theaters, the family can be distinguished among the factors shaping both spheres.
