Catcalling is a phenomenon occurring in public space. It consists in the perpetrator’s use of comments regarding, for example, the appearance of a person encountered on the street – objectifying this appearance, vulgar provocations, obscene gestures, noises or whistles, honking or strenuous and unwanted attempts to start a conversation by the recipient. The scale and form of the phenomenon, as well as its social assessment, forces us to reflect on the need to criminalize it.

Catcalling jest zjawiskiem występującym w przestrzeni publicznej. Polega na stosowaniu przez sprawcę komentarzy (dotyczących np. wyglądu osoby napotkanej na ulicy, uprzedmiotowiając ten wygląd) w postaci wulgarnych zaczepek, obscenicznych gestów, odgłosów, gwizdów, trąbienia czy usilnych i niechcianych przez odbiorcę prób nawiązania rozmowy. Skala oraz forma zjawiska, a także jego społeczna ocena zmuszają do refleksji na temat potrzeby jego kryminalizacji.
