Przedmiotem artykułu jest nastoletnie rodzicielstwo, widziane jako potencjalny problem społeczny pozostający w związku z procesami wewnątrz- i międzygeneracyjnej transmisji biedy i wykluczenia społecznego wśród osób o niskim statusie społeczno-ekonomicznym pochodzących z zaniedbanych środowisk. Pierwsza część tekstu została poświęcona zrelacjonowaniu najważniejszych zdaniem autorki wniosków wynikających z dostępnej brytyjskiej i amerykańskiej literatury przedmiotu. Przegląd literatury wskazał edukację, przygotowanie do udziału w rynku pracy, kondycję psychiczną oraz szanse i zagrożenia związane z nastoletnim rodzicielstwem jako ważne obszary badań nad nastoletnim rodzicielstwem, mające znaczenie dla ich społecznej integracji i ewentualnej mobilności. Druga część artykułu, odnosząc się do wskazanych wyżej obszarów, prezentuje wyniki badań nad nastoletnim rodzicielstwem jako mechanizmem utrwalania biedy i wykluczenia społecznego wśród mieszkańców miejskich „enklaw biedy”, prowadzonych w ramach projektu WZLOT w latach 2008-2010 w Łodzi.

The article touches upon the subject of teenage parenthood perceived as a potential social problem related to the process of inter- and intergenerational transmission of poverty and social exclusion among people of low socio-economic status deriving from disadvantaged neighborhoods. The first part of the text is dedicated to a summary of most important – in the author’s view - findings of the available British and American literature on teenage pregnancy and parenthood. The literature review suggests education, vocational training and preparedness to participation in the labor market, psychological health as well as threats and opportunities related to teenage parenthood being significant areas of investigation in terms of teenage parents’ social integration and mobility. The second part of the paper refers to the above mentioned areas presenting results of a study on teenage parenthood as mechanism of poverty and social exclusion perpetuation in urban poverty pockets carried out within the framework of WZLOT research project in Lodz in the years 2008-2010.
