Using the everyday language for scientific purposes is getting popular. Complex style of the language of science is strictly connected to a concept of general scientific language (Alltägliche Wissenschaftssprache) initiated by the studies of Konrad Ehlich and continued by Christian Fandrych and Gabriele Graefen. The scientific language is evolving and trespasses the boundaries of terminology and emphasizes the relations between scientific and everyday language. This article presents the most productive root words of figurative German verbs used in medical studies. Although the root words of these forms come from different aspects of everyday life they modify the meaning of the verbs with demonstrative prefixes and determine the linguistic actions typical to all scientific disciplines.
