This text is a pilot study with a small sample (N =57) addressing the quality of school work. It focuses on headmasters’ opinions regarding their self-assessment of their preferred management and care strategies in the functioning of schools. On the one hand, the results indicate headmasters’ preference for formal and legal choices in terms of strategies and, on the other hand, for formal and fragmented choices in terms of taking care, which may imply lower quality of work in schools. In order to conﬁrm this thesis, it is worth extending the ﬁeld of exploration to a larger research group, taking into account personality traits of the respondents, potential of the staﬀ, or material resources of particular institutions.

Niniejszy tekst jest sprawozdaniem z badań pilotażowych przeprowadzonych na małej próbie (N =57) nad jakością pracy szkoły, z ukierunkowaniem na opinie dyrektorów placówek w zakresie ich samooceny w zakresie preferowanych strategii zarządzania i opiekuńczego typu funkcjonowania szkoły. Wyniki wskazują na wybory formalno-prawne w zakresie strategii i formalno-fragmentaryczne w zakresie typu opiekuńczego, co może wskazywać na niższą jakość pracy w szkołach. Aby potwierdzić tę tezę warto rozszerzyć pole eksploracji na większej grupie badawczej, z uwzględnieniem osobowościowych cech badanych, potencjału kadry czy zasobności materialnej placówek.
